Deja vu for me and Israel
50 years ago in October I was off the coast of Israel on a destroyer for 60 days blocking the Russians from resupplying the Arabs.
I am old but the world has not changed.

The six day war?
No that was 1967. This was the Yom Kippur war that went on for most of October 1973.
It was my last deployment before getting out. We at the end of our deployment when we were supposed to stop in England from the North Atlantic and we got diverted to Israel.
We were out to sea for a little over 60 days straight and it made the total deployment 9 months.

As said above, Thank You for your Service, Sir.
Mad RESPECT for all that raised their hand, took the Oath and gave Uncle Sam a blank check, to do with them what they would, for several years.
Like Israel, a Mandatory 2 Years Military Service should be Required here. IMHO.

Thank you all.
I have to admit I joined because I was going to drafted. I had a very low draft number so I joined at 17.
I was used to being at sea as I had been working summers on fishing boats, so the Navy seemed like the best choice for me.

What Destroyer were you on?
USS Conyngham DDG-17.
It is scrap now. It had a catastrophic fire in 1990, injured 18 sailers and killed one officer.

I was on the Lloyd Thomas DD-764, also scrap now well, it's actually part of an artificial reef off of Taiwan .

The got popped a few days after Yom Kippur. They should have been on their toes. It's kind a like their Benghazi and not like their "holocaust" like how some media is playing it as.
All I know is the US will be out of ammo to protect the mainland when China does "Red Dawn" the remake.
