Scope out of vertical adjustment (air rifle)
I am shooting about 6 inches high at 25 yards with my break barrel 22 air rifle. The scope has run out of vertical adjustment. Which ring should I shim to be able to lower the point of impact? Also, due to the back and forth recoil of the break barrel airgun, the scope is sliding in the rings even with the ring screws as tight as I can make them.

Appears to me that most likely something is not matched correctly.
Like the rings and bases are not matched to the gun and scope.
I do not think that shimming is going to be the proper correction for your issues.

I think it is just as likely, or even more so, that the problem lies with the break barrel air rifle. They are notorious for that barrel not lining up properly with the receiver where the scope is mounted. That is why the rear sight is mounted to the barrel and not the receiver. The tolerances of where the barrel meets the receiver are off more often than not. Sometimes an oversized or hard barrel seal prevents the barrel from lining up properly when it is raised to the closed position. A worn barrel seal can actually can allow the barrel to lock up higher than it should. The first condition causes the gun to shoot low and the second to shoot high. These inconsistencies are why you don't see barrel cocking air guns in competition. Easiest cure is to sell it and buy a fixed barrel gun like the RWS 48. Bob

Very interesting and informative comment BobJudy. Fortunately my scioped break barrel seems to be OK. At least it is on target.
