It ain't even All Hallows Eve, you could do the marketing for Walmart. I recall things like ammo and a gun or two being given, and gift certificates, but I don't recall money, but maybe I was not in those years.

Our tree has been picked out already. This way we just walk or snow shoe in and cut it without having to look for one if the weather is bad.

Oakie and woodshed did it for some time and I was always amazed at the effort they put into it

, they did one heck of a job and had to be a real PITA some times with little time to do it

but they did a wonderful thing for so many kids just putting it together I will guess most all the original kids are grown and have kids of their own now

as for Oakie and woodshed I think they would take the items and ship them out but I know they also drew names and ask for people to help send the gifts from home to the kids direct.

I remember just getting a name(s) each year and direct shipping to the kid(s) I was picked to help they put a lot of effort to make sure every kid got something. I remember giving away pocket knifes and 22lr ammo and getting thank you responses from the kids which was nice

its good idea it would be nice if some one or group took it on

sadly, after Oakie and Woodshed stopped

no one took up the work load of playing santa

    Have to add

it was proof so many good people on the forum

and a lot I do not remember all their names who always stepped up to help

One comes to mind it was Doc. RIP he had no kids but every year would buy bicycles for the local kids

Christmas is just a huge marketing gimmick.

No. No no no no no. Let's at least get past Halloween before starting on Christmas. We get in such a hurry for the 'Next Big Thing' that we forget to appreciate the here and now. Slow down, take a deep breath, and live now, not hurrying headlong into the next over-commercialized holiday, important though it's original intent is.

actually, for a Christmas giveaway as the OP started this thread, it's right on time to get it going if one intends to.

Got to get list of donors and what they will donate and the quantity

Open for sign up to receive

Divy up loot against number of kids

    Advise donors, begin mailouts

    Yeah.

I like the idea, so for those reasons I'm out.

I guess it’s never too early to plan for Christmas. Back in August Wifey booked a week at Disney during Christmas for the whole family.

We did Disneyland last year the first week of December. It was decorated pretty. Crowds weren’t the worst but definitely not like going on a weekday in March or April. My wife had just had surgery and wasn’t keen on a lot of walking yet so she rented a scooter and it got us put at the front of the line for many rides.

That's what I remember Ditch-Runner. I just forgot the names. Yes, I even got a couple of thank you notes from the kids. I'm not a big Christmas guy.we We haven't even had a tree now that the kids are grown but the cards were really nice.

We will be at Disney World the 12th through the 19th. Hoping to beat the bigger crowd that usually shows up after that.

Roger and I handled it for a few years. Let me tell you guys, it is a lot of work, but the reward of making some kids Christmas, was worth it. Roger can no longer do it, and I have to much on my plate with the business and family stuff this year. My mom's 80th birthday on December 11th, and I will be in Texas with her. If you guys do decide to do this, make sure that you find someone that has a lot of time and patience. I would be willing to work on it next year, but this year I am out. God bless, Oakie

Oakie, thanks for your efforts. I just couldn't remember what members organized this. Yes, I felt good from contributing but the thank you letters from the little kids made it all worthwhile.

On you Jeff, if it is going to happen. Given the average age on this board, we are mostly talking grand kids now. I will be out of the country too much between now and then, but if someone coordinates, I will pledge to contribute.

Thanks He Dog but I'm now at an age where I'm having two more great grand kids. It's was just I thought that would be fun but at my energy level I just can't do this other than contribute.
