Actually, the heft of the Super Redhawk makes it very manageable.
Fun to reload, too.

Me like both of them but the Alex Henry forend on the #1 really looks cool! I'm a bit jealous because that's the one I don't have. My 280 is the standard and the 7X57 is the mannlicher so I guess I need to get on the ball and find one some day. Bob

I sort of never got pistol caliber carbines. With those rounds they make more sense. Late 19th century having your revolver and your lever action shoot the same .45 Colt or .44-40 made some sense, you were likely not hunting deer with either. 9 mm carbines look like useless toys to me, not that I don't like toys, just not really big on useless.

Some states only allow straight wall cartridges for deer hunting. There are some new cartridges designed with that in mind.
The .475 Linebaugh has been around a while. Pushing a 300 grain bullet to 1600 fps muzzle velocity, fits the bill nicely.

Ive got one of those 9mm useless toys and I love it! Cheap to shoot and surprisingly useful. I got a safe full of deer guns.

Good point Jim, I don't live in one of those states, and have not hunted in one, but I have hunted in states that allow only shotguns and BP.
I sometimes hunt with a 94 trapper in .45. For wasting lots of 9mm I take a high cap Sig, but whatever floats your boat Jimmyjack.😊

Reminds me of my old 200 year #1S in 300 Win Mag.....which I bought for an elk hunt in Colorado, in the late 1970's.
Before I sold it.......it managed to destroy a Weaver 3-9x........in 4 shots. 🤯

From my perspective: pistol caliber carbine describes a short, easily carried carbine length firearm that fires a round in common with your carry handgun. The shoulder stock and longer barrel/sight radius allows a pistol round to reach well past handgun ranges. Also a big advantage for shooters who don't handle handguns well for whatever reason.
I have several ranging from 357 & 44 mag Winchester 94 'trappers' to Marlin and Ruger 9mms (each having a corresponding handgun/magazine matchup). I also have AR9's which utilize GLOCK mags but don't have GLOCK handgun(they're everywhere right?)

Have you ever fired a .223 rifle inside of a range or building. With or without hearing protection, it is very loud and the muzzle flash and blast are quite interesting, especially in low light.
I will stick with my 9mm carbine for those reasons alone. Great low flash rounds out there for the 9mm.

8" barrel AR9 'pistol' with a can is the upper end of HD armament. Gets the job done WITHOUT making the user deaf.

My Contender carbine in .41 Magnum fills my bill. When I want more power I put on the .45-70 barrel. For longer shots at varmints the .25-35 barrel works great with a 60 year old 4X Weaver dot.

Ruger SRHs are the real deal, tough and accurate. Have both a 475 & a Casull topped with Leopolds. Worked up some mighty powerful reloads. A good hit with either will take out just about anything.

I like the Hogue rubber grips on my 454/45 Colt Super Redhawk.

G20 and a Kriss Vector CRB. With a MagEx2, 33 rounds.
Now I like the .500 lever but the thought of that in a handgun, no thanks.

I prefer my rifles be in a rifle caliber but do have 2 pistol caliber carbines. A Rossi 92 in 357mag used for Cowboy Action and all around fun to shoot gun. With starting load 158 gr 38specials it's suppressor silent without hearing protection.
During the Covid shutdowns, I sent my Sister a Ruger PC 9mm carbine, a bunch of Glock mags and about 600rds of 9mm ammo.
I bought one for myself as well to get familiarized with the rifle. Plus it makes a good suppressor host. It's actually a lot of fun to shoot. I almost sold my copy but then added Magpul backpacker stock to it. The stock makes it feel even more handy now.

It has a handy storage compartment in the stock for a spare loaded magazine.

Jim, how long does it take to heal, after shooting that monster??? I shot a 375 JDJ one time, and one time only. I think my wrist still hurts ten years later!!!!!!!!

Actually, the SuperRedhawk is a pleasure to shoot. The heft makes it very manageable.
( I have a 629 Performance Center with a 2-1/2" barrel. It'll make you cry for mommy.)
The carbine is also a pleasure to shoot.
Several years ago, Rossi made some 92's in .480. If one comes up on the auction side, it brings big money.
