My concern would be, if the outside of the barrel had that much rust, what does the bore look like and where was the gun stored, to get in that condition. I would be very hesitant on buying it, but that is just me. The stocks are beautiful.

Too expensive. I know it's a gift from your son but there are better deals to be had.

i considered that too when he mentioned "took some steel down", but i dont see sign of heavy take own so it may have been scale

seems a lot of sellers lack full descriptions as to condition especially bore, although he CLAIMS "but the gun looks like it hasn't been used much"

The figure in the stocks is beautiful but itis not proud where it meets the metal. Looks like it's been sanded alot.

    I'd keep looking.

I think that butt stock has been replaced. It would be interesting to see what logo, if any, is on the butt plate.

I don't think that it's a high grade model. I did a little bit of searching on the web and it every high grade model that I seen, represented something. There were some from the 100th anniversary of the 94, some that celebrated Oliver Winchester, as well as other Winchester milestones. They were all engraved and also had cresent butt plates, not shotgun style. I think that what you're looking at is just a 94 with an aftermarket butt stock with some decent figure. Since you asked, I'd stay away from it as a high grade, unless you just like the rifle. I also agree with Kevin, it's too much money for what it is.

Beautiful rear stock (the “high grade” part) put on a mistreated rifle. Seller warns everyone up front…”please look at the pics very carefully.” There’s so many 94s out there…I’d wait for a nicer one…even if the price on this gets reduced.

I see three things without looking to hard. It is a shooter and a $600 rifle . The age where wood matters is drying up, and yes I have bought firearms just because of the wood. Not so much anymore.

Might like to check on the feedback also - "even if the price gets reduced (scooterdriver)".

What a great son. I’m willing to bet that stock not original. Not factory fitted. I’d pass if you want a shooter. Pretty wood though

I must have raised mine wrong!! I've bought him maybe 10 firearms over the years and he hasn't even bought me a 50 round box of 22's😜

The condition of the wood does not match the condition of the metal which shows honest wear over the years of use. I/m thinking the wood is a replacement or possibly refinished. It is a rifle for the hunt, not the collector IMO. Good luck.

I see it's been sold and no Inspection period listed. Too much like buying a pig in a poke.

I would pass for several reasons.

The majority of the reasons have already been mentioned.

You can do lots better for that price.

It's been doctored to much and the doctoring actually reduced the value to the gun in my opinion. (has too much lipstick and make-up added to a rusty gun)

The wood is not the original wood for that gun.

Think about what you also cannot see.

talk about poor descriptions, does this person have a clue

i love my '99's even more than the '94

    here is their description;

SARAH15 GUNS is thrilled to offer THIS SCARCE SAVAGE ARMS MODEL 1899 LEVER ACTION RIFLE CHAMBERED IN THE RARE .303 SAVAGE CARTRIDGE!.. FADED FINISH ON THE RECEIVER, LEVER, AND BARREL...ADJUSTABLE REAR SIGHT...EARLY SHELL COUNTER...DRILLED AND TAPPED FOR AN OPTIC MOUNT...CUSTOM CHECKERED WOOD STOCK AND GRIP WITH A LEATHER WRAP...C&R ELIGIBLE..

truth is, the ammo has only been made on rare occasion by small mfg for 40 years or so

finish is almost completely gone on right side of receiver

early shell counter ? it was the same throughout the run

drilled and tapped ? if not for a scope of the era an abomination !

custom checkering ? looks like it was cut in by hand with a rusty pocket knife...

and no mention at all about the badly broken really poorrepair on the stock... 😪

First off, those Blackhawk grips you made for my wife's 32-20/32 HR mag Ruger convertible ever so many years ago still look striking!!! If you are a serious Christian, as is my wife, to have her grips made with a cross in them makes the whole gun special to her!! So a heart felt thank you!!

As to the Winchester, compared to many on this site I am anything but an authority. So when I can tell that that pretty stock is not original to the gun, than 100% that stock is not original. There has never been a Winchester ever to leave the factory with the wood to metal fit that bad!!

Someone either used that gun for a baseball bat, or got mad and broke it. "Don't worry dad, I can fix it with a couple of nails and some glue" . That rifle has definitely seen its better days!!!
