When I first went to bifocals descending stairs took some getting use to.

    Went straight to bi-focals.

    Now, Tri.

This last pair I went with progressive.

I have gotten used to them.

The biggest complaint is that they only cover where my nose is pointed.

No quick side glance is in focus.

Stinks when driving trying to look into the side mirrors and also, while hunting.

I'm in my 12th year with progressive lenses and have gotten quite used to them.

Given the alternative, I can put up with the inconveniences.

I know my latest script has improved my pistol shooting accuracy tremendously. I was seeing a fuzzball instead of the front sight.

Coming into a warm building from cold weather is always a foggy situation though.

@elubsme when I was in the 3rd grade Justin Pedrotti dared to call me braceface and four eyes in the same sentence.... Some how he ended up on the bus floor.... My dear teacher turned a blind eye😉

Finally after all these years I finally have a optometrist that understands me and is a shooter and rides a horse and understands what I have suffered. I have 5 feet of depth perception and can only be on a horse I trust.

It's amazing how slick those bus floors can be!

Just give it time. You will grow to love them.

An airline pilot friend of mine had trifocals in the bottom of his glasses, and at the top of his glasses, as he needed to read the instruments overhead. Yeah, that would take some getting used to.

The best set of off-the-shelf sunglasses I've ever had, had +2.5 diopter bottom sections.

They were great, while wearing my contacts, for close-up knot tying.........while out bass fishing in my tube.

    We all get older.........👴

Well, I'm one week in and I might be starting to get used to 'em. I went to town yesterday and stopped at the eye docs and they made a couple little adjustments to the frames which seemed to help. As Gregor said above, coming in from outside I fog up pretty good but that's to be expected. I have some stuff I put on my skiing goggles that keeps them from fogging, I wonder if it'd hurt the glasses if I put some on them? They both have polycarbonate lenses but I wonder about any coatings getting damaged.

Check to see what type coatings you have just to make sure the defogger won't hurt it.

I've been wearing glasses since 5th grade, I'm 74 now , lots of time behind the darn things

    I have never met a horse I could trust.😉

These things are gonna drive me nuts. I'm not getting used to 'em and feel like I have motion sickness unless I sit still and look at the TV. How long did it take you guys to get used to progressives? I'm about two weeks into it and it seems like it's getting worse rather than better.

Progressive may not be for you. I'da thought you'd be use them by now. Sorry.

Maybe regular Bi or even Tri's are what you need. Talk to your eye doc again.

    Neo......

See if your doc will let you "try" some soft contact lenses.

You just may be surprised.........besides.......whatdaya got to lose?

I might be able to help.......PM me.......as four people in our house wore them, at one time or another. Depending on your prescription......I may have matching #'s.

    Just some thoughts.......

It took me over a month to get used to progressive lenses if I remember correctly. Wouldn’t think of changing back now. I use a single prescription for golfing and shooting, however.

I will never complain about my glasses. Just got diagnosed with Glaucoma and the prognosis may not be good.

I am scrambling to see a second ophthalmologist to see how long I can delay the inevitable.

Been using tri-focals for few years.

Progressive lenses suck big air for me.

As for the fogging try doing what the divers do. (for short term use)

My lens are poly also and have the hard anti-scratch coating. Some do not have such.

I use a anti fogger that I get from the eye place. Think maybe wal mart has such.

I'm really careful when doing a lens cleaning wipe. I only use cotton balls or soft tissue and do it carefully and my glasses last long time and I'm a outdoorsman and mechanic and rough on glasses. I do not baby them, but do not abuse them when doing a lens cleaning. I wear the large lens eyeglasses mainly because over the years the large lens have protected my eyeballs (probably would have lost either or both eyeballs if not for glasses being worn) and the large lens allows for more room for the tri-focal separation to not get in the way when I do not need such. I lost a lens out of one side (non dominate eye side) when deer hunting and was approx 24 hours before I noticed such.

I very seldom have to replace eyeglass frames either.

I appreciate that, 62, but I asked the eye doc and the optician about contacts and they both strongly recommended against them for me due to the fairly dusty environments I work in on occasion (hay loft, wood shop, etc.). They said contacts could lead to some serious eye irritation.

I'm gonna keep plugging along with these progressives for a few more weeks and see what happens. If it doesn't get better then I'll go in after the first and see about switching to bi-focals. I'll try to keep the whining down to a minimum.

Neo an old doctor of mine told me something when I first got mine that seemed odd but it works. point your nose at what you are looking at!!!! the glasses are made to look out of the center of, if you roll your eyes and look out the edges of the lenses you will get distortion versus moving your head to keep line of sight centered in middle of lenses.....

I read that somewhere and have been trying to do it but I'm having to overcome 63 years of habit. Distance stuff isn't so bad but the closer it gets the worse it is.

Leave them on as much and as long as you can. The worst part may be stairs, so take them off for that if you need to, but just do as much else as you can and your eyes will eventually adjust to where you need to focus. It's also possible that the doc got your prescription wrong. It may be too strong at the bottom for you (or too weak at the top).

Yeah, Randy, I'm wearing 'em pretty much the whole time I'm awake. Haven't had trouble with stairs or ladders (yet!) but have been pretty cautious after hearing the stories. I got a pair of prescription sunglasses at the same time but don't seem to have the same issues with them, granted, I don't/haven't worn them nearly as much.

Have them recheck your glasses the optician could have “filled” the prescription incorrectly
