    An "Artform," for sure.

Good to see you posting, Keith.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

That is exactly how I inlet a barrel into a stock Keith. Also for any metal to wood fitting like butt plates and such. I used to buy inletting black from Brownell's until I discovered black artists oil paint in tubes does the job and is a lot cheaper (more for your money).

Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

That's a labor of love for sure. There's no way in the world I could ever do what you woodcarvers do.

In the past I tried my hand at woodworking. I turned out some of the most beautiful firewood ever to be burnt.

I'm envious of a true wood worker.

    Your work is just amazing.

What do you sharpen your chisels with, Keith?

That firearm looks vaguely familiar. Happy Thanksgiving to you and the family Keith.

i tried several inks and paints, but didnt like the way a lot of them soak into the wood grain

especially as you are finishing up and cant get it removed 😒

    i should post that, LOL

i have an entire toolbox drawer of various stones, most of the time (i am an obsessive "touch up" while working

i have an array from course aluminum oxide dry stones, fine oil stones and a diamond bar or two

most of the time if i slip, i dont know i am cut till i see blood

it is especially needed with this block, as it is about as old as the derriger, it was the mantle in a farmhouse built around 1850

    some VERY hard walnut

and i am terrified with every test fit about that cracked trigger letting loose

i think the crack has widened a slight bit, must have bumped it so that terrifies me even more

Keith, I can't remember the trigger details but if it can be removed just send it to me. I can have it laser welded. It won't be very strong but it will keep it from completely breaking. If it can't be removed, just don't worry about it, just keep the broken part. It's not like it will be ever fired.

I have seen pics of your work and the repairs you have done and anyone who would ever question your work knows absolutely nothing about craftsmanship and the excellence of the finished product. As an older gentleman I worked with for years would say "Your Top Shelf".

Jeff, i tried for several days to remove that pin and get it out of the way, it just will not give at all

still dont want it to break on my watch, it is bad form to break someone elses gun

No Keith, I really meant it when I said don't worry if it breaks. It's not a gun to me, as much as it's just a relic of the past that I'll make a oak or walnut display mount next year. With everything you have going on, please don't be concerned about my trigger. Take care, Jeff

Keith you do have a talent with wood working and repairing.

I could not be happier with the two gun stocks you did for me some time back

    good to see you posting

since Jeff has outed himself, let me tell you all the kind of guy he really is...

he sent a pair of deringers to be stocked WAY back just before the wife had her heart attack

he offered to have me send them back till things calmed down, and i said if he didnt mind waiting i would get on them as soon as she was a bit better

then i got my diagnoses and he e-mailed again, just send them back

this time i explained that having at least some work on the bench was a kind of therapy for me, the concentration of the work takes my mind off things at least for those 20 minutes or so...

so this guy has been waiting for around 2 years !

and i have had a very few people ( not people here) complain and pest almost daily after just a few weeks !

I wish I had your talent. I can do amazing things with wood and metal, but could never make a stock. I wish someone could teach me that art. I have all this black walnut, but don't have the nerve or skills, to even begin doing what you do. Your awesome with stocks. Oak

Keith, Please don't make me out to be any kind of a nice guy. I have my reputation to uphold. 😉
