Oh Taco Burgers are good
Couple weeks back I made some. The ratio was about 1 3/4 to 2 pounds of 80/20 ground with a packet of taco seasoning. Mix that bad boy up while you cook up some sliced onion in bacon fat (mmmm... bacon fat) and before the onions get much cook on, slap the patty/patties or smash it over the onions. Put a lid on it to keep it from splattering and let it steam a bit.
As I type this I think Pico Del Gallo would've been a good topping. It's basically onion, tomatoes, jalapeno, cilantro (I put a bit of raw garlic) and maybe a little olive oil. So will bacon, cheese (being Mexican themed the three amigos blend Monterey, cheddar and that one I forget). i use a French loaf. That reminds me what used to be like $1.99 was now $2.39 bidenomics at "work". Cut the loaf in half and then slice it lengthwise, slap the meat down and then get to work.

Sounds a bit like the original Taco Bell burger back in the 60's.

Not a Mexican food story but I have fine memories from grade school (back in the stone age) where about once a month they served what they called "Pizza Burgers" for hot lunch.
The head cook there had a recipe for pizza sauce I would just about die for if I could get it today!
She used hamburger buns top and bottoms laid out flat open face. Her fabulous sauce on each bun along with loose fried burger, mushrooms, and mozzarella cheese. Hoooo Boy they were good!!
Have tried to duplicate those pizza burgers many times but always fallen short by a long shot. The secret was definitely in the sauce!

I doubt there is any original recipe at this point in time, Yosh. But yours does sound fabulous.

It was originally called a chili burger at Taco Bell then they changed it to the Bell Beefer in the 70's discontinued it in the 90s when the slogan was "think outside the bun".... Doubtful they will ever bring it back according to the Internet, A semi-local taco chain in Texas called Taco Casa has the closest to the original I've ever found and they call it their Chili burger Just a small hamburger bun, with mild sauce ground beef and shredded lettuce. you can add cheese for a price. The original at Taco bell also had onions... The good ole days...
