Tell him congrats on the deer from me. Those dang red squirrels are a pain in the derriere. About every other year we have a pair of hawks raise their younguns on our property. Those years the red squirrel sightings are rare. This is an off year for the hawks so we have a bunch of red squirrels. I bet those smart hawks will be back come spring when the eating prospects are good. Kind of like a farmer letting a field go fallow for a year to improve next years crop. Bob

Once out of the corner of my eye I saw a rat go flying by... A red shoulder hawk had been in the apple tree and dropped on it... That's why we never poison.

If I wanted to give my Gramma a special present I would shot a Red squirrel for her!! My Grandfather would have starved to death before he would ever eat a squirrel but Gramma loved to eat squirrel!! She liked the Red squirrel best. She said the Red squirrels tasted better than either Fox squirrels or Grey squirrels.

You are so right, a Red squirrel is the noisiest little trouble maker in the woods!!

I had a similar experience but it was during bow season. The darn squirrel had been naggin' at me for half an hour and a goshawk swooped down and nailed him. Breakfast!

I put my high power pellet rifle to work during the off hunting seasons to bag those irritating little red squirrels around here. Little buggers are super fast on their feet and hard to get them to stop long enough to zero in on them.

Never knew some people eat them! About a two bite deal and too much of a pain to skin one IMHO. But food is food and meat is meat!
