They can't be cycled easily, the firmer the better.

I'll give that a try and let you know. May be a few days.

    Thanks!

I have a Marlin 989... I have been having a lot of mystery issues since I started shooting it, the last time it wouldn't cycle at all unless I did it manually with the bolt... My friend was on the phone walking me through. Anyway I haven't had time to tear it apart again for pictures but we are thinking it's the firing pin... Something to think about.

The problem most often is that while cycling one round up to the chamber, a second round fails to be stopped at the magazine.

Might try different ammo manufacturers. Size does matter in this case in SOME instances. I had same issue with a couple some years ago.

@Lady, it's not the firing pin. Those and other Marlins of that period have had issues and other than keep it clean the ones I had worked better with CCI ammo. OF COURSE your mileage may and will vary.

Typical "Marlin Jam" Quite common in the lever models. Many years ago my hunting buddy lost a fine white tail due to this malady. He was so mad he traded for a '64 Winchester.

How is the carrier/lifter (that bit near the follower). Oh that reminds me does it have an after market aluminum follower? Mine didn't like the follower. It was a little long to the carrier so it would bind. Before I spent money I also lightly sanded and polished the lifter/carrier (the bit that's close to the follower).

Also did you clean the magazine tube and spring? Hopefully it doesn't have a dent or a burr.

Maybe the bolt is dry? Good cleaning there while you're in there.
