7 pin, that was another thing that made me question it.

I find that once I educate myself on a product, I know quite a bit more about it than the "Salesman."

New model seven pin with drum set- I find that highly unlikely it does not -:

I'm assuming there are drums (no disc's) under there, unless there's another way to stop a trailer. Mfg'r isn't open until tomorrow.

Possibly some type of surge brake. My Ranger boat trailer has a breakaway cable on it that will activate and lock up the surge brakes if it comes loose from the trailer. Ranger Trail puts a disc brake on their trailer. The plug on my Ranger Trail looks like a 7 pin but it is actually a 5 pin and the extra wire deactivates the surge brakes when backing up and locks them up when the breakaway cable is pulled loose from the trailer.

The salesman might well be correct. Some break away brake systems are hydraulic and the actuation is accomplished by a master cylinder mounted on the frame tongue. They have a cable which attaches to hitch. If the trailer becomes free from hitch the cable is pulled and activates the plunger on master cylinder, thus setting breaks. No electrical required. They only activate if the cable is pulled and require manual release.

It has a battery, not a master cylinder on the tongue, so surge brakes are not the thing. It also has wires going to each backing plate, so I believe it should have service brakes. Since it is such a new model, it's not on the manufacturers website yet, so I will need to try and contact them tomorrow.

If it has electric brakes, it will have service brakes as long as you have a brake controller and the appropriate wire from your tow vehicle.

Same thing happens when I am car shopping. I end up knowing way more about the product than the person who is trying to sell it to me.

Well, did you get your trailer brake question answered?

I have the same break-away system on my camper. It has a battery that actuates the brakes in the event of a problem. The battery has to be serviced every couple of years, and it's only duty is to apply the brakes in an emergency situation.

The trailer came with a factory 7 plug connector, which has nothing to do with the emergency braking system.

Other than keep the break away battery charged.

Black wire should charge the battery and the blue is for service brakes. Gonna go investigate more, once I get dinner going in the crock pot.

    Crockpot Elk Stew
Crockpot elk stew recipe that is full of flavor! Chunks of lean elk meat simmered in broth, with lots of herbs and veggies.

One of my favorites, with a few additions of course....

They were waaaaay out of adjustment for a new trailer, but looks like I'm heading in the right direction now..

That looks like it'll do! Are you saving up for a set of tracks for it?

Does it have brakes on both axles? Depending on the laws where you live, some tandem axle trailers only brake on one axle.
