The "flaming bomb" is the U.S. Ordnance Department proof mark.

The "Flaming Bomb," indicates it spent time in Uncle Sam's Arsenal. What configuration do you have? 1897 "Trench Guns," are worth a small fortune, followed by "Riot Guns." There were a few longer barrel ones used, I believe, to teach aerial gunners lead firing etc.
I collect Riot Pumps and have quite a few. (Some Flaming Bombs.) Most Trench Guns are out of my price range. $$
*Please post a photo of yours if you would Sir.

Very Nice Sir, Thank You.
That is a Trench Gun, by virtue of the Heat Shield and Bayonet mount. Very nice you have the bayonet as well. 👍
1897 "Flaming Bomb," Trench Guns are worth a small fortune. $2800+ is not unusual. (And) I may be on the low side now. Those are Trench Gun Gold Standards.
How did you come by it, if I may ask. (And) If you care to share what you paid for it, that would be great. (If not, I completely understand.)
Very nice, thank you for posting photo's. I am very envious, Sir.
*Search Completed Auctions on GB, FOR 1897 Winchester Flaming Bomb, Trench Guns. You might be very pleasantly surprised.
*Unless you are hurting for money, I would oil that up, put that in the back of the Safe and hold onto it. They are rapidly increasing in Value/Collectibility. 👍

Check your serial number to be sure, there are "fakes" out there. If that is real it is a nice one.

I saw one at a gun show a couple of years ago. The owner swore it was original until my friend drug out a Winchester collector's book and a Blue Book listing serial numbers, and showed him that it couldn't possibly be original due to it was built some time later. It DID look great, though.
