I can't answer those questions, but I have recently seen several YouTube videos that describe how to "refresh" such batteries that will no longer accept a charge. Might be worth trying after you get replacements.

If they lock in correctly and physically fit, there should be be no damage to your devices. It is akin to installing a larger gas tank.

That said, please look into the manufacturer carefully as there have been issues with aftermarket batteries causing fires due to shoddy construction.

That sure hits home Rocky! I had a battery powered leaf blower that the battery quit taking a charge only about a year after purchase. Gave it to a brother after it sat around on a shelf in my shop for at least another year. I just couldn't bring myself to throwing it away as the replacement battery cost more than the entire blower set up.

Brother Bruce took it home and just charged it up and it works like a new one! I now think that dog gone machine just didn't like me!

I use both and no problem. The larger one came with the chain saw and the smaller one with ablower and weed wacker. Works in any equipment just heavier.Pricy, I too would be interested in the generic batteries.

I have an EGO weed eater, blower & chainsaw. They all accept the same battery be it 2.5 or 5 amp. I purchased one 2.5 amp battery for the wife's blower because it is much lighter. I have 3, 5amp batteries for the other tools which last much longer. All of my tools & batteries were purchased in 2020 and still hold a full charge and last as they should, My personal experience with aftermarket cheaper batteries, you get what you pay for and will be disappointed.

yep, when I needed the battery replaced in my string trimmer. Lowes did not have any 2.5 so they replaced it with the 4ah. works fine.

    @...: https://forums.gunbroker.com/discussion/1913445/ego-battery-question-i-need-to-buy-a-new-battery-for-the-three-ego-battery-devices-we-have

We are very happy with these EGO tools but a new battery is needed. The original batteries are 56V/2.5 AH.

I have found some generic batteries at a reduced price with a good warranty so I'm considering this reduced price option. Anybody have any knowledge about the generic batteries as opposed to the original batteries?

I also found 56V/5.0 AH batteries rather than the 2.5 AH. Is there a reason that these 5.0 AH batteries wont work in my EGO tools when original equipment is 2.5 AH??

    Thanks all!!

Not sure how long you owned yours but EGO batteries have a three year warranty.

The 5.0 may be larger than the 2.5, so you will want to confirm fit in your tool.
