There are some good reasons for removing human names from birds. Something like "Fred's Sparrow" does nothing to help identify the bird, whereas something like "Blue-headed Sparrow" does.
Making these changes out of rampant wokeism is, however, ridiculous.

They did this with a fish species a number of years ago. What is now known as the Northern Pike Minnow used to be known as a Squawfish. Hell, I still call 'em squawfish!
Their new name is more deceptive than descriptive. They do inhabit northern waters, but they look nothing like a pike and they are not minnow-sized. My wife caught one last summer out of Flathead Lake that was almost two feet long.
