    That’s quite exquisite. The butt plate reminds me of the butt plates they used on the Remington model 12, but I can tell that it’s not. Did it start out as a manufactured stock or was it all hand crafted along with the art?

    The rifle was built from a blank stock of plain maple by a fellow that did very good work at reasonable prices some years ago. The art work was done by a master member of the Horn Makers Guild. His name is William Frankfort or Wild Willy Frankfort, as he is known.


    I would call this type of carving scrimshaw. A bit deeper cut than what is done on powder horns, but not quite as pronounced as typical incised wood carving. I was told he did it all with X-Acto Knives.
