The intimidation factor is great.

I don’t know about an intimation factor, but definitely will give new meaning to the word fear. Lol

One of the the most high anxiety traffic "HOT STOP" for the deputies was if there was a canine unit present.
If the canine unit sends the dog everybody gets into their car and closes the door. The dog doesn't know deputy from crook, and many a deputy got a little bite.
This came to a stop when the handler would walk the dog up to the lead unit on leash, and then release the canine.

One of my family members retired from law enforcement in California. He was bitten several times by police dogs to the point of having stiches.

Biting friendlies counts against the canine. Severity and frequency can lead to a canine being disqualified for patrol.
Not good.

When I was in the army we had a guy in are unit that had been a dog handler in the army. He explained military attack dogs only have one handler and will only answer to that handler. He also said that when a handler left the military or was reassigned, the dog that had been assigned to him had to be destroyed.

I tried to enter the Army as a "Dog Handler." (That was about the only MOS that was closed to me.) At that time, (1979) you had to have 5 years Civilian Experience as a "Dog Handler," to be considered for that MOS.
There is a very good movie out, about Marine Dog Handlers. (Featuring Kate Mora, from "Shooter.") [A very good movie.] It shows a lot of the behind the scenes stuff that goes on, with "Service Dogs.
*I am sorry, but I do not recall the name of the movie, just now.

Butchdog3, I wonder how many of us remember those commercials and then a competitor offered TSR. I remember the commercials but not the companies. I think one or both are no longer with us.

The Sheriff had the contract with the feds for bomb dogs to respond to Limburg Field Airport.
We had 2 bomb dogs trained in Texas. The dog handlers had 2 parking spots at our substation. So you learned REAL FAST to spot the dog handlers patrol car. Back window down do not approach. It was a game for the dogs: how far they get out of the car but technically still be inside the car.
Many a pair of underwear soiled when you accidently got to close to a dog car. This was before they came up with the remote rear door opener.

I had a cousin that drove for Joey Chitwood and Transworld Auto Daredevils. One summer they were sponsored by US Royal and Chevrolet. They were touring with a wild animal act. When they got to a new town my cousin would load up a full grown tiger on a short chain in the back of a Chevrolet pickup and drive around the town to advertise Tiger Paws and the show.
One time the tiger stretched out and hooked his arm and he jerked his arm and tipped the tiger out of the bed of the truck. He asked us, "Have you ever tried to put a tiger back in a truck?"
The crew would tie the tiger out in the infield on a screw in tie down and tease the poor tiger. There was no love lost between them.
