SAVAGE MDL 110 BOLT ACTION .243 CAL CLIP FED

Got this rifle and its pretty clean. Anyway, i put 3 rounds in it and it fired 1 out 3 times and the other 2 didnt even have a mark on the primer? Any ideas? Thx

    Firing pin, hammer spring, dirty firing pin slot(or old gummy oil/grease.

    Take the bolt apart and clean good, oil, and retry.

    Disassemble the bolt and throughly clean all components.

    Years ago my old 110 DL series K, 270 Winchester started the same shenanigans, pulled the bolt down, and there was a wee small pine needle had made it way in and was fouling the firing pin.

    I guess it entered the barrel from a normal dirty pine needle infested saddle scabbard and then stood upright in tent and maybe later when I chambered a round, the case face pushed it into the firing pin hole?

    and this was before I started taping my barrel . But not a hiccup or light strike since.

    Clean. I had a customer bring in a 22 semi auto to have a scope mounted.

    took it out to sight in and be fore I could get my finger off the trigger,

    8 rounds gone. Dirty, tamed firing pin, Slam fire. Glad no one else was around.

    And yes. rifle looked clean.

    Once you check the firing pin. You might want to Have a gunsmith or you check the headspace on the gun? Sounds like the rounds may be too deep, maybe the die was off ?

    I'm gonna add in here to use a dry lube if at all possible. Lubes that stay wet will accumulate gunk and may eventually lead to the same issue you have now. I've used a dry teflon lube in my Model 70's bolt for the past 40 years and have never had any problems and that gun has been packed around in some incredibly dirty environments.
