Ok all the talk about cheap old canned food
all the talk on here about food seldom eat or when younger thats not so common any more
while shopping going down one of the isles I happened up on some corned beef .
so I bought a few tins of it I have ate one its actually better than I remember it
I do remember liking it better than Spam

When I was young and hitchhiking around the country a can of corned beef and a can of potatoes fried up was a great meal.

Heck, growing up in the 50's I thought chickens were just necks and backs. Brother & I would snitch apples from our neighbor and Mom would make dumplin's. Ketchup samiches and corn on bread were a staple. Wabbits & squirrel were our main source of meat. A box of .22 shorts lasted half a season (and half an unseason!).

I remember most of those cans of corned beef came from Argentina. That was a long time ago and I haven't checked to see if they are still from there.
Back in the late 60's\early 70's I would open up a tin of it (using a key to open) and make sandwiches with mustard. I had to scrape the white grease off the sides.

I used to think those tiny cans of Underwood Deviled Ham were such a treat. VERY high in salt, though. Crackers and a can of Vienna sausages made up a lot of hunting lunches. Tree stand or duck blind cafeteria food, it was.

I have several cases of canned corned beef. I watch for it on sale online and in the stores.

As a confession, Having worked in a Grocery store for the last two years (before retiring,) - I bought Ton's of dented canned goods at cost, from the "Closeout" bin.
I have apprx. 30 Milk crates of cherry picked Canned goods. Yes, cans of Corned Beef, etc. Amongst them. I'm pretty well set.
