One gets up in Olympia and you see quite a few Teslas with state gov't plates.

In Florida, law enforcement confiscates all kinds of vehicles which they in turn use for undercover work and when the vehicle gets known in the area, they trade it off to another agency ................ they don't buy them, they steal them ......................................................... from the criminals ..................... 😁

They do the same thing here in Louisville.. Last one I heard about was a current model year Mustang GT. I believe it is currently being used in traffic enforcement

That seems like quite the conflict of interest.

If you're gonna have an interceptor, it might as well be one that can run!

Catoosa County in Georgia had the idea.

Catoosa County Sheriff Pontiac Trans Am - Code 3 Garage
Sheriff J.D. Stewart of Catoosa County Georgia understood the importance of a quick patrol car, and assigned Pontiac Trans Am's to his deputies.

The Seaside Police Department has upgraded two of their old police cars to new luxury Tesla Model Y vehicles. The department says the model comes with unique induction wheels for better handling and better performance in wet conditions. They add that the cars will also help lower emissions and reduce the city's carbon footprint. The police department is spending close to $354,000 on the Teslas and three Ford Hybrids, plus other costs associated with the electric cars. The funds are coming from the department’s supplemental law enforcement and asset forfeiture monies.

Civil asset forfeit laws were passed to enable government to seize assets that were acquired through criminal means. They don't have to prove it they just have to suspect it . They regularly take cash etc from folks who have never done a thing wrong . You usually have to get a lawyer to help you reclaim your property, which may wind up costing more than the property is worth . Some shady polie departments around

My brother has a Tesla. It is fast as can be, and has unbelievable acceleration. Roomy back seat, it would make a good police car. Cost $65,000.

austin20 - Ah, why spend their money when they can steal the money "legal" like. I'll have to keep an eye out when those rides catch fire.
