Yesterday our son proposed!! Today we had an engagement party. When did engagement parties......
become a thing?? The first I heard of an engagement was maybe six months ago. Some of the things they do now I just don't get.
On the positive side my future daughter-in-law checks all the boxes. A very nice easy going personality, very smart, a future nurse practiononer(SP), from a great family that thinks our son is wonderful, very attractive, very athletic, Uri wont play her in pickle anymore because she was beating him like a rented mule!!😂🤣
Like I said, she checks all the boxes. My wife and I are ever so happy to add her to our family!!
But why are engagement parties such a big deal now. Tonight was for our son's friends and her immediant family. Next week an engagement party will be thrown for her friends. I just don't get it.

I just watched the movie "The Big Country" from 1958 starring Gregory Peck, Jean Simmons, Charleton Heston, Burl Ives, Carol Baker, Chuck Connors, etc. and in it the father of Carol Baker's ranch family hosted an Engagement Party for Peck and Carol, who were supposed to marry.
So......I guess that Engagement Party's are not really anything new. Probably just coming back into vogue in recent times.

We had an engagement party here at the house gift both of our kids when they got engaged. Very casual and relaxed. It was a great way to become acquainted with friends and families from both sides

I don't know. My oldest got married back in 2020... no engagement party.
My youngest is getting married in 2024... engagement party upcoming this month. First I had ever heard of it myself.

They got parties for anything these days. They have Divorce parties "female dog" be gone party. The ones I listed are kind a old these days so they may no longer be a thing. We'll see how long the engagement parties last. After covid any gathering should be cherished.
