Bought a "different" little rifle !!! PICTURES ADDED !!!
Picked up a Stevens "Visible Loading Repeater" mfg between 1916 and 1920. It's a cool little rifle especially the way it picks up and chambers a round, hence the name.
I'll post some pictures tomorrow.
Here are a few pictures.
This will handle a mixed handful of short, long and long rifle in any order without a hitch.
The barrel is pitted as is expected in 100 year old .22s but it's shootable ................. and I will.
Not worried about scratching this one. π

Looking forward to the pictures. This is gonna be cool.

If it is the one I'm thinking it is, that's a pretty good find! Kinda looks like a cross between a pump and a rolling block. I looked at one for sale about 30 years ago but the bore was so bad if I had cleaned the rust out it would have been about .25 caliber! Needless to say , I passed. Bob

I had one about 45 years ago neat little gun I liked to watch it cycle working the pump it would lift the 22 round up into mid air then feed it into the chamber holding just the rim it was a favorite odd ball 22 I have owned I think I gave 30 or maybe $ 35.00 for it
it broke a spring so I took it to a local fellow who just opened a gun smith shop as a hobby.
he tinkered with it had it some what working and a week later closed up shopπ― he must have realized his skills were not what he though but t he did me he was hoping to just work on black powder muzzleloaders. and had no clue about other firearms π£
I found a part at a local gun show some time later when a gun show was really a gun show and every part and gun could be found and cheap
at the time I dearly wanted a ruger 10-22 had thea itch to get one I think at the time $ 79.00or 89.00 for a new one but being broke as normal π I ask a guns hop about a trade in he said sure your rifle and 85.00 ,
me ahh "no thanks" , he should have just said I dont want to trade LOL
I would have respected him more
I sold the rifle later on and bought my first 10-22 at the next gun show

There was a local gun swapper who might as well have said "You give me your gun and I'll sell you mine".

THERE IS A REASON THEY ARE CALL THE "MISERABLE LOADER".

THERE IS A REASON THEY ARE CALL THE "MISERABLE LOADER".
Yeah, they had a reputation for problems and the innards are complicated enough that most Smith's won't work on them.
This one seems to function well as I have (not fired) but cycled about 30 rounds through it for a function test.
A lot of their issues were due to how unrealistically clean they needed to be to function well. I don't care however as I think that the rifle is cool and oddball enough for me to "need" it. π
Remember the Edsel? .......................... well it's quite a collectable now.

Yupp, that's like the one I passed up on, but yours seems to be in far better shape. Cool factor is pretty high. I hope it shoots well and you are lucky it appears to work properly. One warning is that after I passed on the one I found, I learned that spare parts must be made of unobtainium because they were scarce and pricey. Bob

Good read, thanks for posting.
I hadn't read that article before but I've heard all the negatives regarding the model 70 before I bought it but I feel the same way the author does .......... I like oddball guns like that. Pretty sure I'd still like it if it didn't function at all but I'm going to take it to the range as soon as the darn weather clears. If I survive the range π I'll post a report.

If you like 'oddball' guns I'll let ya know if I put my 25-25 Stevens on GB ,,,,, I had a machinist turn the brass so I could reload for the little rifle ,,,,,
.22 LR on the left ,,,,,

Was developed as a target rifle, it shoots where I look. π

well, that's the best kind of target rifle.

The old range I used to shoot at (now closed) and an indoor/outdoor area that allowed 22's only. 4 old guys used to shoot at aspirins at 30'. They all used the old Winchesters & Stevens pumps!

Bullshot, I, like you, like the old, odd, and unusual. That is a very nice looking old, odd and unusual rifle. Most everyone knows {'m a .22 addict. I have two visible loaders, but not in near as nice shape as yours. One of them seems to function, but I have never attempted to fire it. I am awaiting your report. One of mine is chambered .22 short only. Cool rifle. However, comparing a visible loader to a 1906 Winchester is close to sacrilege.

I have a couple of very old Stevens .22s (Crackshot, Favorite) that have shot out barrels, pitted etc and I still shoot them , not the most accurate but they shoot and are still mucho fun.
