Not sure on the glues, but I doubt they'll hold up real well. I've had similar happen to me, and I just go with patches. Use a fabric like plaid/flannel so it looks intentional. Sticks out more if you try too hard to match.

being cheap ( or thrifty ok Cheap ) I hate to toss any thing out in the back yard a rip or tear I do not care about and just use as is

I have a few work / casual jackets I have used different "glues" on I have not been exactly thrilled about the results. that was a few years ago I still have the jackets and even thought I just wear them into places like the big box or parts places. the tears did not get any larger but I was disappointed in the over all look of repairs.

my best suggestion go to youtube

I was going to do a internet search next time I am positive better products and how to instructions are out there

such things like repair methods and material seem to get better as improvements are made in the bonding process.

like some of you i am sure when younger having patches sewed on to your school clothes, I know I was embarrassed by it

but was common at least in my area a lot of other kids also had similar clothes , but it sure hurt when other kids made fun of me

now it cost extra to buy clothes thet come ripped and patched right off the shelfs

    go figure πŸ˜•

Not sure if this really suitable but I can assure you that a smear of blue gasket maker will last FOREVER on whatever type of 'fabric' it might be.😁

I've also been contemplating the feasibility of fabric repair. I had planned on wearing a brand new Green brushed wool sport coat that my Mom bought me, to her funeral, in her honor. When I pulled it out of the closet, in order to wear it/put it on, a mouse had got up between my Coats and had nibbled on a few areas of the lapel. Made me sick. I hate to throw it away.

Blind stitching comes to mind (hidden repair), with 4 boys in my family my Mom used that method of repair a whole bunch 😊

Check your area for a shop that advertises "tailor" or "alterations". Tailors usually have some tricks to repair fabrics, such as "darning" or "patches".

...cleaners/phonebook/fabric shop should be able to help you with finding a person that does "re-weave"...

Yup, as in "darn these old socks!"

Because of the sentimental value of my (unworn) Green Sport Coat, from my Mom. I do not want to throw it away. I'd like to have it repaired. πŸ‘

    Will explore various options.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I found a seamstress a couple of towns from me and I'll take it to her this coming week. I don't care so much about how it looks but want to be able to machine wash it now and then.

Good plan. The glue is not going to work well. It's meant to be temporary or in addition to stitching.

I'm thinking a funny iron on patch or stitch one.

We used to have a member with the handle catpealer, and I was thinking he might be able to help with that, but I see he was banned a while back.
