It comes from two things, Don: a) a lack of understanding of the definition of the word gay and b) the promotion of woke agenda at all levels of education. I largely blame the focus on "b" over the last few decades as being the cause of "a". Sad to see, but not surprising.

On a related note, the special hats leading the graduation ceremonies at the last two college graduations I have attended (both WSU) have made a point each time to emphasize how the college and ceremony was taking place on stolen ground, and giving thanks for the allowance of such activity. 🙄

I for one would ve having a serious conversation with your son/ daughter about what is going on in your grandchildren school . Someone, ie the music teacher, is pushing a " woke" agenda. Time to do a Barney Fife and " nip in the bud!"

I originally thought that it was a combination of your a and b, Randy, but even in the context of woke, the substitution does not make any sense.

There seems to be a perceived need to not use the word gay - ignorant on about the same level as the push to eliminate the word niggardly from public usage. Substituting the word 'pride', however, makes zero sense. Use the word 'bright', for example. Do you really think the instructor actually thought that in this context the word gay was referencing a sexual preference? It is almost the only thing that makes sense, but I refuse to believe this person is that stupid.

I mentioned it to both the mother and the father. Not sure if thought it as odd as did I. A couple of people I talked to either did not hear it or at least told me they did not hear it.

The simple explanation is that language has evolved. The word 'gay' that we grew up thinking meant merry and happy now means something totally different.

Frankly, had I heard something like that I would be raising hell with the school. But then, I'm about a cantakerous ol ' buzzard when it comes to things like that.

Yes, I do believe this person is that stupid. But more likely, just really bent on promoting their woke agenda. It is very much a part of the leftist communist tactic to co-opt terms. In their world "gay apparel" is given the new meaning of same sex preferring apparel, which is patently a synonym for pride (which is yet another term co-opted to advance the agenda.

I think that you underestimate people Don.

    They are that stupid.

I wouldn't be surprised if the one who changed the word thought "don" in that context was a noun.

Why am I not surprised Don. Before we know it the 1st graders won't be taught the words to "Mary had a little lamb". On a side note, Back in the '70's Indy had a few hamburger joints called "Gay Dan's". Sometime in the '80's the name was changed to "Mr. Dan's". That outfit was ahead of their time when it came to woke.

I will be saying something to someone, but sadly I believe I need to thread a fairly small needle with this one. Probably a simple and respectful letter to the school principal will be the best choice.

The brighter the spotlight on it, the more quickly it dies.

"The brighter the spotlight hotter the flamethrower on it, the more quickly it dies"

A minor suggestion to your wording.

...why didn't you ask the school why they changed the lyrics?....

  • tomh.

These alphabet people think inclusivity is paramount. So long as you're not white, male or heterosexual.

In saying "gay," all the other alphabet letters are left out. Not inclusive. So they change that to "pride," which can be used to include everyone. Again, unless you're one of the excluded groups above.

Also, the word "gay" no longer means carefree, happy, whatever. It has been coopted, much like the rainbow, which is no longer a natural phenomenon, but rather a symbol of alphabet pride.

"Hell of a price to pay for bein stylish."

Texas1911DE, I suspect the school admin will cite Mary's lover.
