Well it definitely wasn't a Southerner that said that, sweet potato's prepared in 42 different ways and hardtack crackers were our mens main cuisine...no steaks π€¬ and still gave the North a run for their money π

Here's a fun fact, Worcestershire sauce got it's name when a redneck when into a restaurant 100 years ago and ordered a steak. When his steak was delivered the waitress brought a container of a black sauce and the redneck asked "what's dis here sauce)? The rest is history .

In the early to mid-19th century, the wealthy landowners of the South were looking for more land by supporting wars in Texas and Kansas even as many newcomers were flooding the US. Perhaps the wealthy landowners also put economic pressure on small landowners to give up their land in their home states?
Can it be that one of the issues with Fort Sumter was it blocked pirate ships from sailing easily? What if they snuck out anyway under a false flag, or launched smaller pirate ships without using major harbors? What if they victimized Europe and South America's shipping? What if countries which traded on the Atlantic threatened war over the piracy? What if the US took only ineffectual steps to stop the piracy and went back to making money?
What if European and South American shipping interests then secretly encouraged the South to rebel because the US hadn't been keeping its obligation to keep the people within its borders from practicing piracy?
Why piracy, you may ask.
Could the Revolutionary and Civil Wars been at least partially about piracy?
Can it be Great Britain sentenced people to transportation to the New World for being indirectly involved in piracy, since piracy itself was a hanging offense? Along with ordinary colonists, of course.
They are said to have swept piracy off the Atlantic in the 1710s-1720s. Can it be the pirates did not want to make a desperate last stand and at least some of them abandoned their trade and moved to the Americas?
Why did Great Britain give the Colonies the land in the Treaty of Paris in 1783? Can it be at least in part because they had given the colonists some people to take care of?
Can it be the colonists were upset about taxation without representation because the ones who were profitably employed did not want to spend an unfair amount on the defense of the rest?
Can it be after independence, one of the reasons England went to war with the US in 1812 was they expected the South to be ready to support them again once they had shouldered the burden of their own defense for a few decades? Perhaps Britain expected them to try a little harder this time after facing the natives without the help of the British military?

If you have a good steak and know how to cook it, there is no need for sauce of any kind.

You bet!!........
When my wife and I would go to a nice restaurant, the waiter/waitress would nearly always ask "Would you like steak sauce?".
I always answer "No.....thank you. I don't want the chef to come out, and beat me up!!"
Kills my wife......every time I do it. π

A-1 on steak is a lot like engraving on a gun. It's unnecessary but a lot of people like to add it and think it adds something worthwhile.
Not all steak is premium quality nor cooked perfectly. But it's still steak and what it might lack can be augmented with sauce.

Prefer with a little salt and black pepper. No sauce.

If your steak needs sauce, you need a better cut of meat.

I have used A1 before, but not so much on steaks as more on pork chops. But I use the thick and hearty and I add 1 ounce of bourbon per 10 ounce bottle for flavor. I prefer Jim Beam for flavor.

Had a discounted piece of beef tonight that my wife overcooked.
I A-1'ed it.

If I had been around in 1862 I still would have jazzed it up a little with bourbon.
