Nice!! Has the barrel been cut off? The barrel appears to have been just bucked off square with no chamfering or crowning. Is that how they made those old guns?

Looked at it this am. About to break $2K, fairly soon, with 8 days left.

The only way to know really is if the letter stated the bbl length. The sight looks too "correct" for me to think it has been cut down. This one is in such good shape I can't imagine that they cut the barrel down....you only see that sort of thing on guns that are in need of major "fixing up" typically. Plus, that front sight looks like its original and not something they've cut and added to the gun. The half mag guns have all been shorter barrels that have come through here. I am no expert....but I think its original. I know the finish untouched for sure.

The last '73 I looked at in person was not nearly as nice as that and sold for ~$4k. I think you'll do well.

I think all Winchester's barrels at that time were cut flat. They were plugged when they were blued. The end of the barrel remains in the white. A good indicator whether a gun has been re-blued or not. That looks like a very nice 73.

Rifle barrels were cut square and not blued/browned. Carbine barrel ends were rounded.
