Shelter in place
That was the news story when I woke up today. 3 miles as the crow flies from my house, someone went berserk and the Aurora police asked local residents to stay inside and away from doors and windows.
The incident happened about 1/2 mile from the police substation!!! Not likely to get away with the matter when Johnny Law can see you from his office!
I don't live in the ghetto. There aren't any particular issues with homeless, drugs, gangs, etc around here. I think people are just losing their minds and choosing to be outraged at the first opportunity. And it's getting worse. There have been multiple shootings and an increase in violence in the druggie parts of Aurora lately. Same old story (drugs and deals gone sideways) and the punishments are always a slap on the wrist which we all know is more encouragement than deterrent.
FWIW: I'm perfectly safe. Two very alert mini-Aussies tell me when anyone or anything moves outside the house. No one, not even the stealthy pizza guy, gets close without the alert being sounded.

Same Aurora, different area. Aurora is a massive area containing some of the shadiest parts of Colorado as well as some nice ones.
I live in a small corner of Aurora that happens to stretch into a red county called Douglas. I'm about as far away from the notorious Aurora as you can get and still be classified as part of it.

Here's a crime map of Aurora. I'm below the E-470 line in Douglas County. It's very much a pro-2A county. The event that happened yesterday is in Arapahoe county which favors being nice to criminals and talking about their problems.

The 'shelter in place' thing got me thinking, though. That's the difference between what the second amendment was intended to be and what it has become. "Stay home and the police force will keep you safe" instead of "keep your own community safe". Seems subtle when I write it, but it's actually a massive difference in mindset. One way inspires community service, the other inspires dependence and submission. (apologies for turning this general thread into a constitution thread. I'll do better. 😀 )
