Anyone Having Problems With Winchester Primers?
I have trouble with Winchester large pistol primers not seating correct. Have a RCBS press and cannot get the primers seated correctly. They do not seat flush like they used to. Installed a new primer seater in the press with no help. Using Star-line, Winchester and Remington 45 Colt brass. All brass is once once fired. Cleaned the primer pockets, no help. It takes considerable pressure to get them seated to the point they will not jamb the cylinder. This happens in the two 45 cal revolvers I own. Anyone have any ideas? All help will be greatly appreciated.

Do you have any old stock or other brands to compare with. Mic'em.

I had a similar problem with 6.5 x 55 Remington brass. A primer pocket reamer fixed it.

Yes, had the same problem loading my 38-55. Like said above, primer pocket reamer did the trick. Remember too, Starline brass is thicker than most brass. I'm going through hell reloading my reformed 256 win mag brass, from Starline. I called them and they suggested a neck reamer. It just arrived and surprise, surprise, the rcbs neck reamer, won't fit in my rcbs case trimmer. Ready to cry.

Oakie, that's one of the problems you have when necking down 357 to 256. Split and crush cases when necking down can be fixed by annealing and some brass you will have to ream out neck so the loaded round will chamber. One of the things I like about Starline is the extra thickness makes for many reloads.
Same applies with many when you neck down cases. Had to inside neck ream 30-30 brass necked down into 7-30 Waters last week.
Highly recommend avoiding NI plated brass.
Once you have a few prepped your work will be paid off. Hope this helps

Is it a problem with new brass as well as fired brass? If new brass is ok, make sure the primer pockets of your fired brass are totally clean.

I have some Remington 9 1/2 magnum primers that are in a deeper cup than any other primers I have. ( win, cci, fed magnum and standard lr.) They sit proud of the brass when seated. That's not a good thing. I bought them solely for 7mm RMag. I bought the reamer and used it on a dozen brass or so but got tired of it. I went and got some win lr mag primers and put the rems on the ever growing pile of stuff I'll never use.
