Feed him a can of sardines, the oil will work wonders greasing his intestines plus it will de-worm him.

Something isn't right from the get go when the dog stopped eating. What test did the vet do? What was the vetss answer as to why stopped eating?

Be very careful with forcing bowel movement. If there is blockage or twist and to induce force and cause a rupture,,,,

I'd be back at the vet right now.

Yep, sounds like te vet treated the symptom instead of trying to find the cause. I would take the poor pooch back or to a different vet.

Pumpkin is what my vet always suggested... Also another Dr. Woody suggestion was to mix Campbell's chicken noodle soup with Pedialyte heat slightly with a tad of butter to cut the taste.

Buttermilk is another trick for the bowels...

A little olive oil mixed in his food. By a little, I mean about a teaspoon for a 30 - 40# dog. It will act as a laxative and the extra fat calories will help with weight gain. Bob

Don't wait for anything. Get him to a different vet as was said earlier. I don't know where you live jimdeere but it's probably late for tonight. Get him there first thing in the morning. Let us know how things go. I don't mean to be pushy here but ailing dogs struck a nerve.

I know many think what I posted about feeding the dog sardines was a silly comment but I was dead serious, I use to own as many as 20 high dollar Pointer bird dogs that was loaned for use for the day to hunters shooting quail on our land. An old timer taught me that trick about feeding them sardines packed in oil, the oil lubed up their guts making passing easier and yes, you'd see worms in the dump piles that commercial wormers didn't affect. I had to start warning the hunters to stop feeding their left-overs scraps out in the field to the dogs after lunch breaks due to the difference in foods. It got so bad I had to warn the hunters that I'd pull a Dick Cheney on them if caught feeding the dogs. Not putting veterinarians down, they have their place in todays world but they can & will get deep into your pockets, faster than you can say "jack rabbit".

Jim, what’s the latest on your pooch?

Could be very serious. We lost a beagle many years ago to a bowel blockage with similar symptoms. Get him to an animal hospital ASAP where they have proper diagnostics equipment.

My daughter's Doberman stopped eating and pooping and laid around in agony. She took it to a vet. It had eaten a corncob whole. Jammed up it's digestive tract badly. Vet saw it in an X-Ray. $1500 operation. The dog was fine after a few weeks.
