Eyesight
I have MD in both eyes and cataracts. I love to shoot trap but its getting tougher and tougher. Any tips for old eyes?

I am with you in that category. I have Glaucoma. Just had laser surgery on both eyes to try to slow it down.
I don’t shoot trap so I can’t offer any pointers for that.
However I find that I have to be satisfied with going to the range and target shooting no matter what scores I get on a target.

I wish I did because I have the same problems. My left eye vision sucks and it isn't fixable. My right eye has been developing a cataract and it's to the point I don't drive at night and targets are getting harder and harder to see. I am reluctant to have the cataract taken care of because of the very slim chance something goes wrong, my only at least partially useful eye would be affected. My next ophthalmologist appointment is in March and I have been trying to convince myself to have him schedule the surgery. Getting old ain't easy. Bob

I could have written this post. I am near blind in my right eye and feared the slim chance of losing sight in my left eye. I also have macular degeneration. I finally got the cataracts removed. They did my bad eye first. then the better eye. It was all successful and I shouldn't have waited so long. My hesitation was because I personally know two people that had failed procedures. Good luck with your decision. I know the anguish you are having.

I also have the dry type of macula degeneration. Per my last visit , first of this month, it is in remission/ stabile. Have had cataract surgery in both eyes . Only need reading glasses now .

I hear The Fonz telling me to have my eyes checked for this. From what he says about this, there is no fix.

Shots might not fix it, but they stabilize it and keep you from going blind.

I had my cataracts removed 6 years ago and it took me back to 20/20 vision.. They have slipped back a little now and I got my first real pair of glasses in my life a few weeks ago.. I asked what else could be done at this time and was told
Welcome to being over 65.... Macula degeneration runs in my family....so far so good for me, but I check often with the home test and the eye Doc checks it every time I go in..

I have to go in 3 weeks to get my eye drains opened up. the inside drains not the tear ducts. They are afraid that if they dilate my eyes with the drains the way they are I could get violently ill. They have to poke a hole in each eye and then go in with a laser. Who would have even know that you have drains inside your eyes.

Cataract surgery is the most successful medical procedure that has come down the road. I have had it in both eyes. A good friend of mine finally got it done and he thinks he should have got it done years ago. You should not be afraid.

I had the same surgery done on each eye this past month. Takes more time for prep than surgery. Hopefully it will be successful to drain the fluid from my eyes so that the pressure does not continue to build.

@armilite & @SW0320 My 98 year old aunt became ill enough that we brought her to the emergency room at 4 am. The doc there recognized what was wrong & off we went to an eye surgeon to open up the "canals of schlemm." They allow excess fluid to drain and lower the pressure. It was a learning experience. First they picked at them but finally had to use a laser. She went through it with no problem.

They would have to knock me out in order to poke a needle in my eye!! I'm very eye sensitive.
Have worn glasses for near sightedness since late 2nd grade. Contacts have never been considered due to above statement. I can still read and play on the computer without my glasses.

Been on Areds for years, No problem with the needle. They have it figured out to a tee. Only a little scratching a couple of hours after the numing goes away.

My dad had MD. My last eye appointment the Dr said that I too had MD. Asked him about Areds. He said I could take it, but there wasn't enough info if would help slow it down. I read Susie's post, and decided to try it. Sams Club has it cheaper than Amazon. Thanks for the tip.

I had always thought the same.........until my eye doctor proved me wrong, a long time ago. It seems that the eyeball does not have that many sensory nerves. They can test fit in their office, on your next visit........wouldn't hurt to try.
Been wearing contacts since the early 1980's.........no problems.......and the world OPENS WIDE.

Well they told me my eye pressure is currently good 15 and 16 what ever that means.

They also told me if they tried to dilate my eyes currently there would be a 50% chance of getting violently ill.
