One of the sales guys said they have a Grand Highlander that has the V6 turbo hybrid. He may have misspoke.

Right now I have submitted everything that I am claiming.....we will see what they say. If we are near what I think they should pay I'll be looking at either the Sequoia or Grand Highlander. If not, I may end up in another Highlander....either way I'm counting myself lucky at this point. It was a nasty ordeal and to only have seatbelt marks I'm counting my blessings.

Toyota Hybrids are fabulous. We have a pair of 2020 Platinum-level Highlanders. Hers is a hybrid, and that's our road trip car. We fill up every 330-350 miles with less than nine gallons each time.

Mine is the V-6 and gets 20+ city. Haven't had it on a trip long enough to establish its highway mileage yet.

I vote Go Sequoia. Those things are sweet and they have the V6 twin turbo, max hybrid 430 HP

highlander and grand Highlander only offer the 4 cylinder turbo

.....and the offer has been made from the insurance. It is NOWHERE near what I will accept. We will see where this goes.

They are about 10K short of anything I would even remotely think was fair. They said they search surrounding areas for comperable prices to get an estimate. I'd run over and buy three of them for that price.

Last time I had to deal with a totalled vehicle, the insurance company offered a joke of a settlement. I complained vehemently and they threw in another couple hundred bucks and said "take it or leave it."

I took it cause what else what could I do? Sue em?

Ask them to buy you a vehicle matching your Highlander…. mileage, options, etc. when they find it you will inspect and sign off if it is a solid match for what you had.

    Hope it works out

Like most of you I have had insurance company's go well beyond what I thought they would do and came out well pleased .

and some that were a uphill battle for every nickle

Even if you got to keep the ride what's there to salvage? I suppose you could do NASCAR (I forget right turn or was it left turn?). Be fun on dirt. No fear of scratching the paint.

In 2020 when my wife’s Lexus was totaled we got a little over 15k fr a 2010 RX350 with 110k on it. A friend who sells used cars said it was good deal. I hate trying to deal with insurance companies. My lawyer is still fighting with the drunks insurance company just to me paid back for all the lost time from work.

SW0320 - 2020 was crazy beginning time for used car resale (home bound folks with free time and government funding to stay home). Adjusted for "insanity" maybe you did well for the ride? I heard prices for used cars are dropping so maybe it's starting to come to pre-covid plus adjustment for 10% inflation?

Kind a curious if DUI numbers went up in covid lock down? Were bars essential business?

Bars were not essential businesses. In our area bars were closed for almost all of 2020. Several never reopened. Many survived by serving some type of food because restaurants were able to stay open with limited capacity.

Grocery stores were open and many sell beer so they did a brisk business. With all the extra money and time people had in 2020 I think many were drinking a lot more.

The craziest thing is that they aren't going by the model of the car to determine the extras that are on it. They missed a ton of things this car had because the "appraiser" was just checking off things on a list. The paint being metallic....the tires are 20 inches...the heads up display on the dash....the seats having A/C, not just heated....the steering wheel is heated.....there are about a dozen odd extras they didn't have on the list they are using to determine it's value. So, I'm certain we will see an increase in price once they get that figured out. I'll be getting a lawyer if we aren't in the balpark of what I think is fair. I'm not trying to get them to buy me another car....I understand I will lose some money in all of this, but when I refinance whatever I buy I think I should be able to get in the same level car without starting from square one.

Been thru this before so, my insurance company offers on NEW vehicles only, for an additional $50 a year, for 3 years, if my vehicle is totaled, no questions asked, they replace it with a new vehicle of same model & equipment. This is with Erie Ins.

Glad to hear that you're OK. You're fortunate to get only seat belt bruises. One of my best friends worked in insurance claims for decades. He said that insurance companies hate to have open claims sitting around for long. He would say that unless you had to have a different car quickly in order to get to work, just wait for a reasonable settlement. Let us know how things go.

Sorry to hear about the Highlander LF.

I think you would get a kick out of owning a Jeep Wrangler, if you have never had one before. Will it ride as nice as the Highlander? No but you will make all sort or new friends called Jeepers or Jeeple.

With a little elbow grease that should buff right out. A few expensive parts and that is fixable. A new door skin, windshield, roof work and around the edge. No hard impact and still probably drivable. Around here they put a piece of cardboard over the window and drive it.

I quit looking at everything that happens to me as "luck" because I'm a pretty fortunate person.....I just have a LOT going on at all times and I do overcome all of the hiccups. I look at these things as a test. I keep going and overcome the nonsense that comes my way....at least so far I have!
