Fascinating video for those of us trying/pretending to be machinists/gunsmiths/.....watchmakers. ๐
Oddly soothing to watch..............not just impressive skills on display.

Nice video
Thanks for sharing
I do enjoy such videos on YouTube
I am never disappointed with people abilities with basic tools in most cases

I liked his bluing technique.
The die method is about the only way to cut small threads on small screws. Using a single point tool using a lathes lead screw and half nut lever is really hard to do on small threads unless you have a dedicated collet toolroom lathe like a Hardinge.

Cool, thanks for posting that! I watched how to make a square hole too. I'll watch more as time allows.

Great hand skills and patience, both of which I do not possess.
I do envy and appreciate such qualities.
Thanks for posting.

I can't for the life of me keep my shop that clean.
From wood chips to Ti chips and everything in-between. It all piles up and goes into the trash.
I would hate to turn SS on a little lathe like that.

I can say I straightened some slots and saved some threads but never made from scratch.

What did he have that in to blue it?

What did he have that in to blue it?
I think it was copper or brass shavings plus heat. I'd have to check the comments again to be sure.

That is what they call fire bluing. It works great for small parts.

Long ago I saw a similar bluing technique. Heating over brass chips. I wanted to blue all the new screw that were purchased to replace all buggered screws on my Uberti Teddy Roosevelt Single Action Army. The bluing on the screws for Uberti was lighter. I wanna say Sapphire blue? And all the new screws were black. I am worried when I heat the new screws they would be soft. So I never attempted this.
