Probably not. The shipping done piecemeal will kill ya.

My books are cheaper, although my publisher won't let me discount them any more due to print costs. That bums me out because I was trying to get them down to just cost.

Did you self publish your book?

Yes, digitally. Baggy Zero Four was written as my entry in a fiction writing contest, and the prize was getting it published. In the years since, the cost to print a book has soared - along with the cost of everything else. That's really the point I was trying to make in the context of why Hatchcock's books are so expensive. ALL books are expensive.

My oldest son sels a lot of railroad books on line and at shows

I could not tell how many publishers have closed up shop during his time selling to me its sad but I am amazed at the books he still sells but then it's a special nitch in the book world

The internet had to put a kill shot on books as well

However he has got some great deals when the publisher closes and sells off cheap to clean house which also takes the books of the market and helping him sell books no longer in print

A lot more to it , honest i lost on the entire process

But he has said getting a book published is costly anymore,

That's where digital publishing comes in. You format your book, design your covers, and upload it all as a PDF file. The publisher only prints a book when it is ordered. No completed books are stored. Somebody orders one and they print one.

Now, that print process is more expensive, so a given book does cost more. But nobody is stuck with pallet loads of printed but unsold books. In contrast to that, the ads you see for self-publishing are 90% scams where they charge the author a huge sum up front then ship him a few hundred books he's stuck with. Often very poorly printed.

The only fees charged for digital publishing are for formatting and editing unless you can do that yourself, then to get an ISBN listing. You can also buy marketing services, but all of that is optional. The ISBN number allows you to sell your book through retail outlets.

It is a very tough industry done the classic way. An aspiring author can submit a manuscript to a publisher, but without an agent to push it, it will just be tossed along with the other thousands of unsolicited manuscripts. Hiring an agent is tough because they also get thousands of crappy manuscripts. If you manage to get one to even read your stuff and pitch it to a publisher, the agent is going to get a sizable chunk of whatever deal he strikes. Assuming the publisher buys it, which is rare.

There's more, all of it disheartening. There really is no such thing as "write a book and make millions."

Unless you are a Politician, they get millions for a book nobody reads...

I just wish a certain Mr.Rocky Raab, would make a trilogy of his books.
