What is the best 1911 45 ACP for under a thousand dollars??
There are so many different companies making 1911s I don't think anyone could keep them straight.
I've been looking through my handgun inventory picking out various pistols that I look at and say things like "Are you ever going to shoot that again?" and "Why did I ever buy that?"
So I'm going to sell four or five. Then I started thinking about what I don't have. I quickly realized I don't have a nice 1911. Got one that is OK but I would like sell the OK and buy something better.
The problem is that the options are almost limitless.
What 1911s have performed really well for you GBers, you know, the one you would gladly buy again. What is it about this 1911 of yours that makes it special.
I have heard good things about the Ruger. Comments on that.

I’d go with a Rock Island Rock Ultra or TAC Ultra. Solid and most for your money. You could easily get 2 for under $1000, and still have a bit left for ammo.

Ruger SR1911, hands down. I have a stainless Colt National Match and I can't tell one iota difference between the two.
I think Academy has them for ~$695.

I have shot a couple of examples of the Ruger SR1911. They are decent, well made firearms. My only complaint is no Ambi-safety...I am left handed and the only reason I have not bought one is I did not wish to spend the extra $ to put one on myself....
I have had really good luck with Springfield Armory 1911's over the years.

I agree, Ruger Sr1911. I have the stainless version picked up at a local auction. I love it. It had a little rust(beavertail) and some rust on the screws, new old stock. I contacted Ruger and told them, I bought it at an auction(new old stock) and told them about the rust issues. Ruger sent a return label and fixed/replaced everything for free(even shipping!)

I have a Ruger that my wife bought me for Christmas a few years ago and Its a very good 1911.I have a Rock Island G.I. that is pretty accurate and has never had a stoppage.It was a little less than $400.I also have a Taylor&Co.,which is a little higher grade Rock Island,completely decked out.Its in 10mm and accurate enough that I plan to shoot a meat deer with it next season.I dont have one but have heard that Tisas is very good 1911.A few years ago if you bought a lower priced 1911,you could almost be sure it would have problems with feeding,function or accuracy. Most of these newer lower priced 1911s are pretty much trouble free out of the box.

Friend dropped off a Ruger 1911 for me to look at. I was impressed with the fit of parts after a total disassembly. I did do a little adjustment on the trigger pull weight and some smoothing of the sear interface with the hammer hooks.
BTW ,,,,,,, Ruger doesn’t make the frame and slide.

I will have to agree with @Texas1911DE . If you buy a Colt it will retain its value far better than a generic brand. There is just something about owning a Colt. My personal Colt is one I bought over 40 years ago from the custom shop, and I payed around $600 for it back then. I have made modifications to it over the years, and it’s perfect for me. I put a value on it at, it’s not for sale at any price, it’s my personal 1911.

Me. I'd look for used if capped at a grand. Might get something really nice in your neck of the woods compared to here in California.

I've long been a forged Colt snob..........namely for the early Gold Cup and National Match versions. Over the years I've gathered multiples in 45ACP, 38 Super, 38 Special, 9mm.......in addition to cobbling together a few 22LR target pistols.
I'll add that since the early 1970's I have sought to NEVER "settle" for something less than what I truly wanted...........within reason. Just bide my time.......and save up.

Yes, they shoot fine, no issues for ME! Best 1911 for under a grand, ? Take your pick, there is a dozen out there that match up. Myself I would take and have a model(s) made in USA.

My vote goes to the Springfield Garison . I purchased this gun new a couple of months ago and did several up grades from trigger to match grade barrel & slide fitting as well as a little cosmetics. A couple of McCormick mags & Galco leather. All still under a grand.

I was of the understanding that a division of Ruger, Pine Tree Castings , produced their frames . Pretty much one of the top casting companies in the world. Never heard they sourced elsewhere.

Thhat is the section my son was in and they made castings for many gun makers, I was unable to get him , he's always working

Right now, there is a Ruger SR1911 Night Watchman on my belt. Commander length, aluminum frame, black finish. It works well.
BUT...
A consignment client left with me a Kimber Covert Stainless. It is starting to grow on me and I plan to buy it outright and use it as a carry gun. It's compact but not tiny. It fits my hand well. And, it doesn't have a passive firing pin safety.

I carried a Commander, circa 1976, for a while, but it sometimes malfunctioned. The Ruger runs 100%. If the Kimber also runs 100%, I'll keep it.
