My wife's getting ready to do ours. If it's close to last year's we'll get about $2000 back. That, plus a little, is going to put a new Minn Kota Terrova on the boat!

We're getting back just under $3500 total, don't have any plans on spending it other than paying off 1 credit card. but because I use it to pay off anything I buy on line I'll always have some kind of balance on it every month. I use it to pay my medicines, my monthly TV, internet and home phone as well as Amazon purchases etc.

I will take all of those. Being self employed for the last 35 years I don’t know what a refund is and even wish I had some of the payments stated here.

We got money back last year; first time in decades. But only because we had pre-paid massive estimated quarterlies and the market slumped. With this year's tax changes, who knows? We don't usually get to the accountant until March due to late-arriving forms.

That's usually when we do ours Rocky. I've only had to do amended forms twice in my life and that was 2 times to many. Bob

Grouch Attack has been working on ours. First time in decades she hasn't waited until 'the eleventh hour'. We're still receiving W-2 and 1099 forms so the tax preparer is adding as received. USDA and Civil Service got their W-2 forms out at least a month earlier than last year. Considering the costs of recovering from the extensive 2022 fire loss, it's reasonable to expect a big refund. No idea of the final outcome.

You mean you got back a small amount of your money that they've been using interest-free for a year, right?

Did ours today. Because of overtime for my wife & I and some casino winnings we netted about $1100. Most of that’s going to a new computer since the old one took a fall and would cost almost as much to repair it as to just get a new one. I keep telling my wife when she wins to have them take the taxes right then so I don’t have to deal with it now. So the Feds got their end from her winning in WA and OR and the State of Oregon got us for $46 lol.

Unless the increase in someone's wages is because of a bonus or large commission, very rarely will withholding on a pay increase keep up with the tax rate. So, most of the time, when one's payroll increases their refund will decrease or they wind up owing more, whichever their case may be. Plus, if they are drawing SS and having to pay tax on that SS but not paying on the max 85% of the SS, then that increase of income will drag along more of the SS they have to pay on and will cost them even more taxes.

You can tack onto that paying extra for you Medicare every month if your income is over a certain amount. Or the real kicker, if you are collecting SS, you are over full retirement age and still working you get to pay into SS and your monthly SS benefit does not ever increase for the addl. payments into SS.

Ruger, look into a refurbished business-class computer from Woot or NewEgg. You can get a very good machine, with warranty, for about half price.

Of course, I'd be remiss if I didn't also suggest you immediately dump its Windows and install Linux Mint. But nobody ever takes that advice.

I try to keep my return at zero, and if I would pay a couple hundred or so that’s ok as well. I know it’s nice to get a return, but it was my money in the first place. I would just as soon kept it through the year rather than Uncle Sam and made interest on it some how. The other tax’s are the ones that hurt, property tax, school taxes, just no end to the little taxes here and there.
