I hear ya. Good greens are one of the few things I miss about living in Mississippi. Collards, turnip, mustard, spinach…all great. The nearest I can get to almost Southern greens here in Utah is Cracker Barrel. No matter what else I order at CB, I always get grits and greens as sides.

Nothing compares to beet greens. Steamed al dente and briefly sautéed in small amount of butter. Best part is that you can often get the for free at farmers markets.

One of my meals-on-wheels recipients was obsessed with the turnip greens we brought him on alternate months. He said they were the best he'd ever had (including those from a well known meat 'n three in Nashville), and I just had to get the recipe for him. When I asked the lady who headed up the cooking crew for that month, she kinda laughed and said, "Tell him to open a can of Allen's turnip greens, and mix in some chicken broth and maybe a little ham."😂

I'd call myself a meat and potato's guy but with asparagus season just a couple weeks away here, I'll have it every day till it's over. 😛

And the smelly pee that goes with it, no doubt.

Well I think you can get a decent decent selection of greens at Safeway… I would use a slice of ham or a nice piece of ham hock. I just ate and now I'm hungry lol

I won't get any green 'maters since the friend with a ranch won't put them in. Too many gophers and ground squirrels.

I'll try and get a blend of greens (collar, mustard and kale?). Also the town overs VFW does this fish fry and they do this cabbage side dish thing. It's made like greens that I'll have to try.

So far I got 4 bundles of collards and a pack of smoked hocks 5 small pieces. Man they went up in prices. It was basically $15.

Gonna try couple other stores to see if I can get couple (maybe 3) mustard green bundles. If not a head of cabbage.

I think for sides I'll make pork ribs in the oven. Have me an anti-halaal fest. The Mexican supermarket is advertising 2 pounds at $5.00 same as Lucky but I never bought Mexican pork ribs. Trying to see if there is a difference? The beef chuck they sell are more tender than Lucky so who knows if pork ribs will be more tender?

Good for you can't I've on noodles and cod all the time lol

AS a kid my grandmother would round up mustard greens from the nearby alley

My in laws would cook up dandelion greens

My mom liked fried okra and fried green tomatoes along with mustard greens

Wife likes okra and fried green tomatoes her mom made them also

As for me I can eat a little bit of mustard greens and that's it once every few years is all I want them lol

Haven't cut in to the block of cod, yet. Saw it and thought yeah not ready to commit. So back in the freezer it went.

I saw some bunches of dandelion greens while I was looking for collard/mustard greens. Now that's lawn clippings.

I miss losing Church's Chicken. They had deep fried okra and I don't want to make the mess at home. But I do love that stuff.

I think when I buy those freezer vacuum sealer I can make a big batch and freeze half for later. I need to do that soon.

The greens and cabbage came out pretty good (the cabbage got mushy way before the greens got done). Both used the same smoked hock juice, couple of seeded Serrano chilis, lots of yellow onion. Now the greens/cabbage 50/50 mix was pretty good.

If the hocks weren't so expensive I'd make greens more often. Maybe next year I'll buy a extra ham over Easter or when they're under a buck a pound to substitute the hocks.

Now the Mexican spare ribs were I guess the same as American? Couldn't tell the difference.
