Bad news: I can't seem to find that exact model of gun in that exact caliber in order to find its price at the time.

But! Good news! I found a gun trader's guide published in 1993 that has a bunch of similar models! I have no idea which of these is the exact gun you're looking for the price on, so here's everything they had about a "Model 40X Remington":

Hopefully you'll be able to ID it from this list, if it's even there in the first place. The book I got this from is called "Gun Trader's Guide" by Paul Wahl, 16th edition, published in 1993.

The question IS: What was MSRP for a Model 40XB from Remington in 1993?

Ah, exact MSRP might be harder to find but at least the book I posted above says it was valued to sell at $785.00 in 1993 for that particular model of rifle. I don't think that's MSRP though. I'm going to go through some online archives to see if I can find an old gun store pamphlet or sale flyer with that gun, dated for 1993. Here I go.

Oh wait, nevermind. Went back to that book to check how it determines price and found this:

So it turns out these ARE the retail prices for those guns in 1993. Well, there's your answer! A Model 40-XB Varmint Special Rifle used to cost $785 in 1993.

Thanks DON. $905 is a bunch cheaper than a $17000 gunite pool or a $100K divorce. But, that's the price of freedom. Govt retirement ck is still coming.
