Revolver Recommendation

Take her to a range that rents guns and spend some money and time to let HER pick out the one she likes the best. Spend a little extra money and time to make a one time purchase instead of a mistake. When she picks it up and shoots it the look on her face will tell you that this is the one.

The very best advice by far.

22 longs are under rated. They will do the job.

A single-action .22 is perhaps the best gun to LEARN revolver shooting. And it's also one that's practical enough to keep forever.

Once revolver shooting is learned, however, and recoil has long since ceased to be an issue, a .38 Special DA is a much better choice for defense. Wadcutter target loads recoil not much more than a .22 and are many times more effective for defense. From there on up is simply a matter of experience and shooting time.

All that said, DO allow her to make the choice.

I think you should look at a good Glock 9mm. Or SIG P365X.

Another vote for a S&W 351 PD .22 mag. The light gathering front sight is great. The short counter bore muzzle makes the bad guy think he is facing more gun. Only drawback is the heavy DA trigger pull. That can be reduced, but at the risk of misfires.

To learn with I would also suggest the Rough Rider… I got here on Gun Broker for 99.00 last year.

2 cents. A 22 magnum crack in a short barrel will hurt you hearing much more than a 38 special.

Ear muffs for anything practice shooting should be the rule.

Can't argue with this. The 38 with wadcutters can be devastating. My wife worked a case once where a poor guy was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Some punk shot him through both thighs and severed both femoral arteries. The doc said they couldn't have saved him if he'd been lying on the table when he was shot. The bullet fell out of his pants in the hospital.

My wife has a Tuarus .38. She liked the feel better than Ruger or Smith. I am not a Taurus fan, but their revolvers seem solid. This one has proven dead reliable.

I picked up a 22LR 1911 for Brad, 2 years ago. He still hasn't shot it. He did put my .410 single shot to work killing 6 raccoons while I was overseas.

I keep the 410 handy in the living room for killing squirrels that chew on our back deck. The last one I shot I couldn't find Hearing Protection in time and went without. I was surprised - no ear ring with firing off 3 rounds!
