No windows in my garage. I can shut the light off and get the same effect.

I am right in the path in southern, IL. and there is no hotel room within an 80 mile radius that is not booked. Guess there is a new saying, "the best three minutes in your life."

we are babysitting the grandsons Monday. Probably gonna drive 45 minutes north to be right in the center of the path.

@Grasshopper I was thinking you said before you lived in southern Illinois. Where we’re at by Galesburg it is going to be 93% coverage. If I drive south about 150 miles down by St. Louis it is supposed to be 99% covered, and if I push a little east of there to Mt. Vernon I could get into 100% covered area. Would be hoot to see a total eclipse.

I know there are millions upon millions of people going out of their way to see it.

I'll just be happy to get and stay out of their way.

I remember a cartoon version of "A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court" that had the time traveling hero about to be burnt at the stake. Just before they were about to light the fires, the guy yelled out that he would block out the sun. He knew there would be a solar eclipse right at that moment. Then it happened and the fear caused them to set him free. It was a good flick that used to be aired around Thanksgiving back in the 60's. The lead role was voiced by none other than Casey Kasem.

Well, it is a Monday around 1:40 pm for me so I imagine I'll be drinking a beer and take a look.

The solar eclipse that will cast a visible shadow across the United States on Monday is already leaving an obvious mark on hotel prices.

The Super 8 hotel chain is considered an inexpensive option for travelers, and it has over 1,400 American locations. About 300 of those are within the path of totality, and 100 of those were sold out for Sunday or Monday, according to the Super 8 website.

One Super 8 in Grayville, Ill., advertised $949 a night for a Sunday-Tuesday stay. $2,847 for 3 nights. Its normal advertised nightly rate is $95.

I don't understand what all the fuss is about. It happens 2 to 5 times a year at various locations around the planet. I experienced the 2017 eclipse when in remote a canyon outside of Tellluride. It just slowly got darker. Then all of a sudden all the birds and insects went totally still and stayed that way until it began getting lighter again.

Most people are easily amused I guess @truthful, it won't affect me much either but it is what it is.

You both got point in a way. I remember when Halley’s Comet came by last time. I was expecting a tail clear across the sky. Turned out to be just a little smug in the sky. Lasted longer than the eclipse though, couple of weeks I think.

I was in a total blackout in the 50's at Granny and Grandpa's place in Louisa, Virginia. I don't remember which year and I must have been around 10 years old.

The sun was out, a nice day back in the boonies. I looked across field and to road coming into house and a shadow was coming down dirt road towards house at what seemed to be 100mph. In a matter of a couple seconds there was total darkness. The dogs started barking, the roosters crowed and as I recall I looked up and the stars were out. I really thought the world was coming to and end. I ran like H to the house for Granny to protect me. Will never forget that day. —————Ray

I am 5 miles from MT. Vernon and the people are in the hotels in town already and the food joints are packed.

    They're calling for it at 1:41pm here........with a 95.8% coverage.

Bought a solar filter for my cameras a few years ago. I'll try to get a few decent pics.

No parking signs every where along the interstate and main roads

No over night parking signs in many stores like Walmart as an example

Some cities and possibly the state to declare emergency lot of warnings to watch for stoped traffic and expect possibly hours trapped in traffic

One of my sons told me people are renting out their yards and driveways

Supposed all the hotels are booked

Where my wire wors they are working on a plant kèp st le as t one line running they ask who w as not going to be their she said at least as t 60 said nope we wi be watching the eclips

I plan on watching but see how it goes I guess depends in the weather

It wil be interesting to see and watch, but thousands of videos will be up on the internet as well as many live broadcasts

Just some of what's going on around us in Ohio were in direct path to have a great view of the show if the weather conditions alow it

Og course All ready places set up to recycle the glasses

Can someone please tell me what the big deal is with the eclipse? Maybe for grade school kids who've never had this experience i can understand but who hasn't already seen an eclipse before??

I'd love to see it, and I wouldn't mind driving several hundred miles, but I'm not paying $900 for a motel. Also I can do without the massive traffic jams.

I think we're suppose to sacrifice people to apese the angery overseers just as it becomes dark

So I volunteer a lot of politicians

Now to just find a volcano for them to jump into

No nearby active volcanoes. But, surely we could use a blast furnace

It's going to be a party for many before and after. Don't be a downer, it's not because of the eclipse, it's the partying. Some towns have shut down portions of their downtown and have drinks and BBQ before the action starts. (I am having possum BBQ shank and will be a top seller) Southern Il is more depressed area and could use the income.

Hotels full up, restaurants packed, no place to park, not to mention millions of people that are lost.

I GOT TO BE A PART OF THIS.
The plan: 1. Leave with a full tank drive close to St. Louis about 2 hours away from here by interstate. 2. jog a little south east from there, if I start smelling BBQ possum I’ll know I’m close enough. 3. Find a country road and park, if anyone says anything?????? There ain’t nobody going to say anything. 4. Have sandwiches and beverages. 5. Have enough bail money, wait I won’t need bail money I’m in Illinois no more bail.

Grouch Attack has decided to drive from 18 miles from the Iowa border to about 10 miles from the Arkansas border to see this eclipse. 🙄

I'll be surprised if she gets there and back w/o an accident, flat tire, or some other oops. Anyone tried to tell a 65 year old woman ANYTHING lately?????

Looking like a cloudy, rainy day for Texas. I'm glad I didn't pay $1800 up front, 3 months ago, for 2 days in the Motel Six. I wouldn't mind the drive, about 1100 miles.

    I like to drive.

Clear day surprised as such events like night sky events always too cloudy

Wife and I and the fogs set out back to watch

We could hear the neighbors who looked they had a small gathering with a lot of kids having a good time

No filters foy my camera, so any shots would have been a waste

My wife did receive a couple of amazing photos from our oldest son who is a camera bug

Him snd his GF Both enjoy star watching And photographing

I will get copys but thousands l8ke them are on line any way

Local news had posted several accidents and large traffic backups due to eclips

I still can't image what it must have been like not that long ago to people who were so superstitious any way

    Thinking the gods were mad

The event around here was much bigger than anybody expected. In a 10 mile radius there had to be 30-40k outsiders on paved roads in parking lots, dirt roads all jammed full. SIU college had 50k at the ballfields. Our local block party had a sizeable turnout with free flowing lemonade stands, soft drinks given away to the new visitors. The BBQ possum sold out in 45 minutes and then some outsiders people asked what meat was that. I replied four legged white meat. Ohh, that was delicious. The actual event was awesome!! Quite the day.

Wish I could have been there Grasshopper, we had mostly cloudy and 85 percent eclipse, not much of a show.
