Every time I read that I promise myself I'm not gonna tear up… And then I do.

    Thank you, Rocky.

Thanks again Rocky. There are only a very few left of the Greatest Generation and they are truly missed. My own father, European campaign, passed in 97 and would very rarely talk about the war. He held all that served in great esteem, but tried to shelter his family from the horrors he saw and experienced. He did tell me once across a campfire about being issued a Thompson with one mag of ammo for the Normandy invasion. When he questioned the lack of ammo, he was told he could get more on the beach. He soon realized they meant from the fallen. I asked if he found some and he got quiet and wouldn't talk any more about it.

Rest in peace all who served. Bob

Neo, you can imagine how much my eyes welled up while writing it. And every time after. I am merely a conduit for words; where they originate I do not know.

Me too Neo. When I saw that posted this morning, I told myself I wasn't going to read it. Well I read it……

Thanks for posting it again Rocky. When I read this it also makes me thing about my dad's childhood friend. All I have is a little picture and a clipping from the Napa California news paper. The clipping is from 1943 and says he is missing in action. As far as I know he is still missing in action, but I could be wrong about that.

I was privileged to know many ww2 vets growing up. Dad was 82nd Airbourne. My favorite next door neighbor was a retired chief gunnery Sargent from the marines Originally from NY he spent 25 years active and another 15 in fleet reserve . Two war vet ,ww 2 and Korea. Like all I knew he was proud of his service but would not tell stories about it . Sadly they are all gone . God bless them. Thankful for their service .

We should be proud of all those vets. But not to forget any vet past present or future.
