Over due range report
Over the past six or eight months I have acquired four handguns, a Ruger Redhawk .44mag, a Ruger SR22 .22, a Charter Arms Undercover .38 and a Charter Arms Bulldog in .357.
I finally got the chance/time to throw some lead down range with them this past week.
REDHAWK: Mfg. 1988. The front sight on the Redhawk had been changed out to a night sight (brand unknown) and was way too tall to be able to adjust the elevation. Shot six inches low and six inches right at seven and fifteen yards, a complete bummer. As soon as I got home I stuck my laser bore sight in it and confirmed how bad it was. I ordered a set of HIVIZ front and rear fiber optic sights for it. I now have them installed and laser sighted but haven't been back to the range to shoot it. I had forgotten just what a beast these are to shoot.
SR22: I replaced the front sight with a HIVIZ (green). The pistol is sweet to say the least, super accurate out to fifteen yards, no problems at all, feels great in your hand and a real hoot to shoot. I really love this little pistol.
UNDERCOVER: My mother-in-law gave this revolver to me, my father-in-law (now deceased) bought it for her in 1966. These Charter Arms revolvers are great little belly guns. The trigger feels like it's had a trigger job though I know it hasn't. I was surprised by the take up/creep being almost nonexistent, I was actually surprised when it went bang. I expected a long, gritty take up and what I got was an extremely short, silky smooth take up with a crisp break. Now accuracy with the very short, all black and hard to see fixed sights and old eyes wasn't the best but inside fifteen yards, it will definitely get the job done.
BULLDOG: Mfg. 1986. Pretty much the same as the Undercover but not as smooth of a trigger (bit more gritty). The accuracy is the same as the Undercover as well. The only real difference between the two is the caliber and of course the Bulldog is slightly larger (not by much though).
I was going to post the target pictures but dummy me left them all at the range by mistake.

That sounds great, other than the Redhawk. Would like to hear how it shoots now that you have replaced the front sight.
Earlier this year I was shooting my Ruger 41 magnum Bisley I had painted the back edge white and then fluorescent orange over the white. It had and excellent pick up but after a few rounds the front sight broke off, not do to hot rounds but account of metal fatigue or a split below the pin hole. I replaced it with a fiber optic sight myself, I like the fiber optic better as it picks up light better. I want to try and use it this year on deer, never taken a deer with a hand gun yet.0 -

Thanks for the reports. I just acquired an Undercover also, but haven't shot it. The cylinder latch takes quite some effort to unlatch the cylinder. I don't know if it needs a good lubing, or if that's just the way it is. How's the latch on yours?

Same as yours. Lubing only helped minimally.
