Colorado followed the Constitution this time
I'm at a loss for words. I fully expected the semi-auto gun ban to fly thru and be signed with our Governor's rainbow pen.
NRA-ILA | Huge Victory for Colorado Gun Owners: Semi-Auto Ban Dead for 2024 Session!
On Tuesday, May 7th, House Bill 1292, the semi-automatic ban, was indefinitely postponed and is officially off the table for this legislative session.Β

Yep. It's a Democrat controlled Senate and House and a βπ π»πΆπ·ππβ‘ππ πβ Democrat Governor.
Not sure what it took to get them to flip but some certainly did.

That's out of character. The Dems are usually in lockstep.

You may be right. But I'll take this precedent for now.

True. The way the bill was written left all kinds of gray areas that would have quickly ruined any firearm dealers in Colorado. For instance, one aspect made mention of semi automatic pistols that can accept a threaded barrel. Pretty easy for a lawyer to demonstrate that almost all semi auto pistols can be retrofitted with a threaded barrel and thus the original gun would be illegal for sale. Not a lot left to sell if such a sweeping, all encompassing ban were made official.
I think the lawmakers may have realized the immediate and continued loss of revenue was more than they could justify. As we often say: follow the money. No doubt dollar signs swayed the outcome.0
