Question for you woodworking experts.
I making a number of hinged boxes about 6" x 8" out of 1" oak. I'm machining them to hold taps, dies, parallel bars, step blocks, etc. The bottoms are machined to a depth to hold most of to objects. That requires the top to be relieve about 1/4" deep to clear the remaining part of the objects. Now the problem: cupping. I know it's caused by uneven moisture due to humidity. My shop is not have a/c and I'm in IN. My question is: Once I'm finished with machining, sanding, staining, and spraying with lacquer will the lacquer seal the wood to prevent cupping? Thanks experts.

Yes in most cases.
Made a walnut mantel piece, twisted pretty bad. Put the heater and pressure to it and made it straight, sealed it and still straight after many years.
