I had the basic perforated aluminum installed years ago at $2 or $3 a foot installed. They work fine so no need for the hi dollar stuff.

The type you get depends on the type of trees that you have. I have a lot of maple and pine around the house and yard and while I love the trees, I hate maple seeds and pine needles. I had the gutter helmet ones installed 20 years ago and they worked great. When we had a big hailstorm that ruined the roof and dented up the guards, I stupidly let the roofer replace the gutter helmet with the perforated aluminum style and those perforations collect and plug up with the seeds and needles. I since installed the stainless mesh style myself on the detached garage and they do a better job and don't collect any seeds but once a year I have to brush off the pine needles that stick in the mesh. If I ever hit the lottery, I will go back to the exorbitantly expensive gutter helmet style, like I should have done in the first place. Live and learn. Bob

I had the LeafFilter guy come out to give me a bid. After measuring and adding about 30 feet onto the job, he refused to give me a price unless he came inside and talked to my wife and me. I told him he didn't need to speak to the wife, and that I was the one signing the contract. He called his boss who also refused to do anything without my wife involved! I very rudely told him to get off my property in my best "US Navy" language! Next day, I called a local contractor who gave me a good price and installed over 120 feet of gutter guard and extra gutter for $1200.00. We-wife and I both-are happy with the results.

When the day comes that I cannot clean out my own gutters and run the brush down my chimney I will call one of my grandsons and they will do it for me. If not, I will have Casey sell my pre 64 model 70, my model P. and other assorted old timers the kids are drooling over.

Thanks guys. It looks like if I installed the available products myself it wouldn't be too expensive but I'd probably fall off the ladder which is what I'm trying to avoid. I'll call a couple of local companies. grdad45, if I run into one of those "we need to talk to your wife also" things won't go well. I pay the bills and I make the decisions.

Of course you will tell the kids you need to sell the guns in order to pay for the labor . . . right?

Several years back I bought this product from Home Depot. Its a dense foam…similar to a pot scrubber. Comes in three or four foot lengths. Its triangular shape and goes into the gutter pointy side down. Works fine…last a long time…
