Range report : Ruger Redhawk 45 Colt
First day shooting the Ruger Redhawk.
I was using some handloads of 255grain flat nose bullets and 5grains of Titegroup powder. That's the recommended low end for the bullet. I also put six factory 45 ACP rounds thru it using the included moonclips. Not much difference between them and the 45 Colt rounds except for the sound.
Not a lot of muzzle rise. Just a good, honest thump back thru my hand and forearm. That was nice. I guess some of that is due to the weight (3 pounds unloaded) and some is due to the grip. The grip shape fits my hand just right so I don't have to cock my wrist to get a level sight picture.
Accuracy was consistent but off to the left. I'll adjust the rear sight to bring it closer to center. No problem there.
Trigger pull is kinda heavy in double action mode. I only gave it 6 DA shots and they were all over the place. But single action is nice. It's not a hair trigger and I'm happy about that. With powerful rounds like the 45, I like triggers that require a bit of weight on them before they break and the Ruger has that. Consistent pressure, break, some over travel, and no grittiness at all. Good and smooth.
No negatives about the revolver. I like the way it looks, the way it shoots, and the way it sounds.

Promise me you won't fall into the trap of trying to magnumize the 45 Colt. A 255 at 900 to 950 fps packs a helluva wallop, as every frontiersman knew.
