Barrel is very long. Hard to tell how long, but I believe at least 42 inches.

Rifle is an original piece the 1860 or so. By the style of the lock. Rod is no correct. Can be worth anywhere from 500 up. Tell your friend to make sure it's unloaded. I have seen to many that were hanging over the fireplace for years and were loaded.

The maker died in 1852? or so it predates that. (1860)

Henry Ledford (1796-1856) was a gunsmith who worked out of Davidson County North Carolina.

Ask your friend if he has the original box? (would add to the value)

AND yes about it possibly having a load.

Guy brought me an old Civil war double barrel percussion double hammer shotgun and one barrel was still loaded.
