The NO. 4 British Enfield was the WW 2 design for faster production.

Unfortunately, yours looks like it was modified by removing the upper handguard. The picture doesn't show it but the forend was probably cut short. The entire barrel from the action to the front sight was once covered with the stock, top and bottom.

If you want to search for information, it would be a "Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk.1*." Just "Enfield" would bring up a different gun.

I recall reading 15 or 20 years ago that .303 or "303 British" was the eighth most popular centerfire rifle ammunition in the US. It is surely still available now. 174 grain ammunition should work with the sights without modification. There's a chance the barrel is shot out because the actual surplus war ammunition was available cheaply in years gone by.

The stock looks to be in original condition. If the barrel was left alone it would be easy and cheap to restore it to original military configuration.

Might want to check headspace, again an easy fix. Nice find.

If the rifle was sportized it's worth the same price as a deer rifle.Which depends on how well it was done. I would price it as low end of 150.00 for the total of the parts. If just the wood was cut an not the barrel. The rifle could be restored to original condition. Stock set is not cheap anymore. Looking at close to a few hundred dollars just for a wood set. If it's matching numbers then I would restore it. Then it's worth 500.00 or more.
