Allen I grew up near where you live. When I was young there were plenty of hummingbirds, blue birds, hawks and lightning bugs. Then they were gone and you seldom saw them.A few years after the DDT ban I started seeing a few blue birds and hawks and the hummingbirds came back last. Now we have plenty of all sorts of birds. I was chased away from my tomato plants when I got too close to a blue bird nest a few days ago.

Some years ago in Portal, Arizona, we were shown a hummingbird nest an a romex wire 5 inches tall. Built almost entirely of spider web, it had been used by many generations of hummers. May you have such a nest Allen.

"We have had a hummingbird in the house.... It was kinda scary because of the high ceilings."

Lady Rae when the bird flew into the hallway, he took a left and went into the bathroom. We immediately shut the bathroom door, and he was easy to catch. If the little mite had taken a right in that hallway, he would have flown into the living room which has a 22 foot high cathedral ceiling. I don't know what we would have done in that case, we would have needed a net with a long handle.

Hummies are thought to fly into garages because of the dangling red handle on the garage door release. Then, for whatever reason, they seem unable to find their way back out again.

I removed the pull handle in my garage, leaving just a dangling rope.

Security experts recommend replacing that rope with something rigid, like a metal rod, so it can't be fished out through the top of the door by burglars. I haven't done that yet, but it's on my "round tuit" list.
