Model 70 sniper rifle value
my brother in law was a marine sniper/recon in Vietnam. He acquired this rifle a while ago because it’s what he used over in Nam. He passed away a few years ago and now his wife wants to sell it. I told her I would look into it but have no idea of the value. Any help would be appreciated. 30-06 caliber.

If I am seeing it correctly looks like is was made in 1965- Nice vintage setup. Value wise, this is just a semi guess, 1500-2000 retail - Specialty item.
Could depend also what is the highest power on the scope? Unertl? or

Just a thought that sprang to mind:
Since it has his name attached and if she did not need the money, might consider donating it so as it would be on display in some type of museum (Vietnam memorial type maybe) so as the current and future family members can see and talk about and be something like a living legacy.
Bet he would appreciate that also.

Interesting that you should mention that, she also has a period correct m14 that she wants to donate to a museum/memorial. If someone has contact info for a place that would be interested would appreciate that also. We are in n e iowa. Thanks.

Note that the Malcolm scope is a Chinese reproduction of the Unertl actually used by the USMC.

I'd give the sister the money and keep it in the family if the "value" is $1500/$2000. Also I may track a real Unertl to make it complete. If you're gonna keep it.
As for the museum angle. Since they weren't his guns during the tour(s) I don't think they'll be interested.

If it was a real unertil that alone is in the 1200/1500.00 range. Now the rifle will also bring that number. So between the two items your looking closer to 2000.00 plus for value. If the serial number is older than 1965, price climbs.

It’s not real one as above, it IS a 65 model, that’s like saying if the barrel had 10 c notes in it the price would go up.
