What no internet or TV? Ain't if funny what worked OK in 1950 is somehow stone age today? Goggle and the manufacturer need to know everything they can about you so they can sell your specs and offer the most helpful advertising. Ours is so dumb we had to buy a seperate wine cooler.

Yep. And new ones are expected to last only 12 years. Our new one has no smart feature.

A funny thing… the salesman wanted to show us a model that had new design lighting feature inside. The entire back wall lit up and I mean bright. It shined through all shelfing and really did light up the box. I looked at the salesman and asked if there was a way to turn off the light. Proudly he says, oh no sir. I said yeah, this just won't work for me, I need to get in the fridge at night without her (wife) knowing. He laughed.

We go back to the GE, and I ask if it's finger print/ smudge free finish. Salesman, yes sir, no finger prints. Me; no finger prints, and dull light, she (wife) ain't got nothing on me.

I'd really prefer a 'stupid' fridge. Keeps stuff cold and nothing more. Any color except black for obvious reasons.

During the depths of the pandemic our fridge compressor went belly up. No compressors available and dang few new refrigerators in stock anywhere. Luckily a friend who owned an appliance store had gotten a few in for a contractor that couldn't take delivery because he was months behind on the houses he was building because of Covid. GE double door bottom freezer models and just the right size to fit in the space of our old one. That was 3 years ago and so far so good. The only thing I don't like is having to open both doors to access the meat and one of the veggie drawers. Only time will tell how long this one will last but I bet it won't be the 20+ years the last one did. Bob

Yep same here, except I like the bottom freezer design as to elevate the fridge unit. Bending way down ti get to the back of the bottom shelf has become a real chore,

Congrats on your new fridge Joe!

We bought a Frigidaire Gallery several years ago. When you open the doors it lights up like the Las Vegas strip. Almost have to put on a pair of sunglasses. It does great, but makes the darndest noises when nothing is going on, it almost sounds like it is ready to destroy itself sometimes. But it works great.

the new lighting is nice. The one feature I like is the chime that goes off if one of the doors isn’t completely closed. Handy feature when you have little guys getting in the fridge

Old refrigerators have a large compressor, turned slow with lots of freon that would last almost a lifetime. New refrigerators have a small high-speed compressor, very little freon and last a fraction of the life of the older ones. I just don't see how you are saving the planet with piles and piles of fairly new appliances in junk yards.

My mother has a freezer with the lock key door from the 60s that is, full right now, going strong. It has been replaced with a prettier one but still have the early 60s refrigerator, lock hand door, ugly brown, in a shed and still works. The new junk sure is good for companies bottom line and with lots of sells.

Yup on 60's products. Mom can have a small fridge in her room at assisted living. I put in a Sears 2' cube from the 60's and had to turn it down as everything froze.

New fridge is in and running. It did not come with a printed owners manual. You take a picture with your phone, of a scrambled picture inside the fridge. That brings up a 53 page manual on your phone.

Wonder if the manual is printable. I ran into the same thing with a manual recently and it was protected from being printed. I guess that saves money.

I believe in our case it is. Wife said she was debating whether to print it or not. Told her no need to really, with everything on line, you tube, etc.

My parents had a 1946 Hotpoint that was still cooling beer, watermelon and lemonade when they sold the place in 1990.

Our wine coolers have electronic cooling, no freon at all.

The funniest "fridge" thing I've ever seen was a thread where you saw a girl who was grounded from the internet trying to send messages on various things. You'd see "posted via Iphone" then "posted via Ipad" then "posted via Ipod"…..eventually there was a post that had "posted via HG Smartfridge" I thought that was hilarious because of all the nonsense we dealt with when we would try to take the internet away from our kids.

If and when I have to replace my fridge I'm going to get the dumbest one with the grill on the back. My current one has the heat exchanger on the bottom and it's difficult to dust or clean.

A friend o' mine had a Samsung and it had issues during covid era where she couldn't get parts like BobJudy. I think she said it was a rebadged GE (Samsung) either case it was silly price for a fridge. After hearing this I rather get a cheap fridge to throw away in a few years than get a pricey one you can't fix. I wonder if BIC makes fridges?
