Bear claws II

O.K. when I first found the bear he was freshly killed lying by the highway. I took pictures of him and left. I went back to the scene four days later and saw where he had been dragged, probably by the road dept. off into the woods about 75 yards. Having a heat wave here in NorCal he was quite ripe. Using a hack saw I got his paws. Wifey had the windows down and Mako the dog had his head out the rear window the four mile drive home. After undressing on the front porch - we ain't got no neighbors here on Wolverton Mountain - I took a lengthy shower. In a few weeks I will dig up and process the claws. I realize what I did was illegal but life in jail doesn't mean a heck of a lot when yer in yer 80's and look at all the money we will save by not going into assisted living!! Ed

She can run a chain saw, Crochet a christening gown, skin a buck, drive 210 miles to be with a sick friend, and do home canning. She was Home Maker of the Year at The Lassen County Fair, 1964. I often wonder how I got so blessed to have her.

    Yoy country people sure get to do some interesting things. Too bad you couldn't get some bear oil out of it. The Indians esteemed it very highly both as a food and body use.

The Indians esteemed it very highly both as a food and body use. We have done that. The taste of bear meat depends on what they are eating. Our last one was gorging on elderberries and was delicious. If they are feeding on carrion or animal life it is totally different. sometimes the meat even smells bad. Bobcat tastes rather bland unless well seasoned when cooked.
